About The Position

The Boys Tennis Coach is responsible for leading and administering the school’s interscholastic boys tennis program in accordance with VHSL rules and regulations, school board policies, and school division procedures. This seasonal, stipend position provides leadership focused on the development of tennis skills, sportsmanship, academic responsibility, and personal growth of student-athletes. The coach is expected to foster a positive team culture that supports the overall mission and goals of the school’s athletic program.

Requirements

  • high school diploma, with a bachelor’s degree preferred
  • prior tennis coaching and/or competitive playing experience
  • demonstrate knowledge of Virginia High School League (VHSL) tennis rules and regulations
  • the ability to effectively instruct, motivate, and supervise high school student-athletes
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • the ability to work collaboratively with school administrators, athletic department staff, VHSL officials, and parents
  • completion of all VHSL coaching education requirements
  • current CPR/AED and First Aid certification
  • successful completion of all school division and state-mandated background checks and coaching certifications

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct tennis practices, matches, and tournaments in compliance with VHSL rules and regulations
  • Teach fundamental and advanced tennis skills, including stroke development, footwork, match strategy, conditioning, rules, and sportsmanship
  • Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices, competitions, travel, and all VHSL-sanctioned activities
  • Ensure all participating student-athletes meet VHSL eligibility requirements related to academics, attendance, and conduct
  • Enforce VHSL, school board, and athletic department policies consistently and fairly
  • Promote and model VHSL standards of sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation required for VHSL compliance, including eligibility forms, rosters, match results, and participation records
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, athletic administrators, and school personnel
  • Coordinate match schedules, transportation, equipment inventory, and facility usage in collaboration with the Athletic Director
  • Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of all student-athletes at all times
  • Participate in required VHSL rules clinics, coaches’ meetings, and professional development activities
  • Support program development efforts, including fundraising and community engagement, as approved by the Athletic Director
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the success of the boys tennis program and the school’s athletic department
