About The Position

As a Terminal Operator at our Searsport, ME terminal, you will play a key role in maintaining safe and compliant operations by overseeing contractors, conducting area inspections, enforcing LOTO procedures, performing gas detection, and issuing work permits. Your goal is to ensure that all terminal activities run safely and efficiently by closely managing contractor work, supporting equipment reliability, and maintaining accurate product handling and inventory control. Your success in this role is measured by your ability to create a consistently safe work environment, prevent safety incidents, maintain precise inventory records, and ensure smooth, uninterrupted terminal operations that contribute to strong overall distribution performance. Requirements

  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Attention to detail around safety.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Minimum requirement is a High School Diploma.
  • 2+ years' experience in the oil and gas industry required.
  • Understanding of Process Safety Management and an understanding of their required active participation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and demonstrate a good understanding of the Terminal systems, equipment and operating procedures.
  • Recognize potential energy sources and applies LOTO to ensure a system is removed from service and can be safely worked on or is safely secured.
  • Issue Work Permits and support contractor safety through area inspections and ensuring Irving Oil processes and standards are followed.
  • Conduct Gas Detection ensuring atmospheric conditions are safe.
  • Receive product by gauging tanks, reconciling inventory, and ensuring equipment is properly assembled as a means of maintaining inventory and protecting the company from environmental emergencies.
  • Ensure a high quality of Irving Oil products through quality control including sampling and testing incoming product and inventory supply.
  • Perform preventative maintenance through the completion of regular checklists and operating procedures on equipment to ensure maximum utilization and longer life span.
  • Share knowledge learned, hazards recognized and assist with the development of junior operators.
  • Assist Drivers as required and provide excellent customer service.
