About The Position

This Test Engineering (TE) opportunity on the U.S. Navy’s Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT) will allow participation on a high-visibility DoD program that provides engineering support to the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI), the largest information technology (IT) network in the world. This position will provide many opportunities to challenge and grow your skills as a Systems Engineer. As a Test Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end quality of our enterprise hardware and software ecosystems. This role requires a unique blend of hands-on lab management and rigorous software validation. You will lead the manual testing of monthly Windows image builds while maintaining a physical test lab. While the role is manual-focused, you will be expected to leverage Python and Robot Framework to automate repetitive tasks and improve lab efficiency.

Requirements

  • Requires B.S. Degree and 2 to 4 years of prior relevant experience or M.S. with 0 to 2 years of prior relevant experience (in System Engineering, Software Engineering, or related engineering discipline) from an accredited college or university.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and have a Secret clearance.
  • Able to synthesize knowledge from multiple domains to apply to new, complicated problems.
  • Experience in collaborating with other enterprise technologists both internal and external to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Experience using Atlassian JIRA to define, schedule, and track work assignments within an engineering team.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and remotely in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work with oversight to develop innovative automation approaches and optimizations.
  • Some travel will be required as needed to travel to and from the Topside BSLN Lab.
  • Hands-on Hardware Experience: Proven ability to set up, tear down, and troubleshoot physical hardware, including laptops, peripherals (printers/scanners), and basic server components.
  • Windows Ecosystem Mastery: 3+ years of experience testing Windows OS, Office 365, and enterprise-grade software.
  • Virtual Environments: Proficiency in testing and navigating Citrix Workspace and RDP sessions.
  • Fast Learner (Programming): Practical knowledge of Python and a strong interest/preferred experience in Robot Framework for test orchestration.
  • Operating Systems: Comfortable working in both Windows and Linux environments for system configuration and log analysis.
  • Tools: Experience using GitHub for version control and Azure DevOps (ADO) for sprint tracking and test case management.
  • Ability to work on-site in the Topside BSLN Test Lab to manage physical hardware.
  • Ability to lift and move standard IT equipment (laptops, monitors, small servers).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) for scaling test environments.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven testing tools for object recognition in remote desktop sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Lab Infrastructure & Hardware Setup: Perform hands-on assembly and configuration of lab environments. This includes setting up and troubleshooting laptops, desktop workstations, enterprise printers, and basic server racks.
  • Monthly Image Validation: Lead the manual verification of monthly Windows OS image builds, ensuring stability, security compliance, and driver compatibility across different hardware models.
  • Microsoft Stack & App Testing: Conduct deep-dive testing of Office 365 (Teams, Outlook, Excel) and enterprise browsers (Edge, Chrome) to ensure seamless performance in a managed environment.
  • Virtualization & Remote Access: Validate application delivery and user experience through Citrix Workspace and Remote Desktop (RDP) tools.
  • Test Automation (Preferred): Use Python and Robot Framework to develop and maintain scripts that assist in automating "smoke tests" for new builds and hardware configurations.
  • Lifecycle Management: Manage the inventory of lab equipment and document all test results, hardware configurations, and defects using Azure DevOps (ADO) and GitHub.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with external customers, management, subcontractors, vendors, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Lead small size and low-complexity projects as requested by the Test Automation Lead.
