About The Position

Sightline Intelligence is the industry leader in onboard video processing for autonomous systems including UAVs, drones, robotics, and other embedded platforms. We are an agile and innovative company dedicated to delivering high‑performance imaging solutions to a rapidly evolving market. We are seeking a Test Engineer who is passionate about quality, problem‑solving, and supporting customers and internal teams through meticulous testing and technical insight. Purpose of Position Based in the Portland office, the Test Engineer designs, executes, and improves test processes while working closely with cross-functional groups in software, hardware, and manufacturing. The role sits within the Hardware/Manufacturing team but closely partners with software and software QA teams to continuously test, validate, and enhance Sightline’s embedded software products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in test engineering and/or applicable engineering roles.
  • Experience with C/C++, Python, and Linux especially in embedded environments.
  • Familiarity with software testing practices, revision control, debugging, and performance analysis.
  • Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
  • Experience working directly with customers or cross-functional teams.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ISO 9001 certification process.
  • Knowledge of networking: Ethernet, routers, switches, TCP/UDP, DHCP.
  • Familiarity with circuit board schematics or hardware systems.
  • Background in UAVs, aerospace, computer vision, advanced camera systems, or relevant OEM knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop test plans, strategies, and procedures for hardware validation.
  • Perform hands-on debugging, functional testing, and stress testing on PCBAs and systems.
  • Perform root cause analysis on hardware failures and collaborate with design teams for improvements.
  • Create and implement automated test scripts (often Python) to increase efficiency and coverage.
  • Improve and expand the test automation framework in collaboration with the QA and Software teams.
  • Provide technical feedback to engineering teams based on test findings.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance product quality, test coverage, and development workflows.
