About The Position

Test Tank Operator is responsible for verifying, repairing, and tracking leaks and defects; ensuring the overall quality of coil(s); labeling coils appropriately; before sending to the next process. Leads, monitors, and motivates everyone within the testing area by creating an environment that promotes positive communication, demonstrates flexibility and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all safety inspections including crane, clamps, chucks, etc. to maintain compliance for corporate or regulatory items. Documenting and communicating any non-compliance items – taking them out of service until compliance is met.
  • Identify and prioritize what coils are to be tested first based on letter code priority and ship date to customer.
  • Install MPTs, caps, and Schrader on coils called out on the BOMs, communicating any changes that need to be made.
  • Attach clamps to coil using proper clamp placement to coil depending on size and weight to maintain weight distribution
  • Submerge coil, using crane, into test tank observing submerged coil to look for air bubbles indicating a possible leak (if leak is present, braze area and re-submerge)
  • Properly pressurize coils to specified PSI on paperwork and attach air lines for pressurizing ensuring chucks or hoses are properly fitted.
  • Use pressure decay system for DX and Condenser coils by hooking coils to VTI system choosing the correct program to fill the coil to specified PSI, maintaining that PSI for the appropriate amount of time
  • Using Inficon helium sniffer, understanding the usage of high and low flow settings to accurately pinpoint and determine if leaks are present
  • Visually inspect coil components for defects
  • Properly label the coil per customer requirements – customer label, airflow direction, QA label, etc.
  • Track coils using logs and enter into leak database
  • Perform and record any PMs to equipment being used, changing filters, troubleshooting, and problem solving
  • Ensure equipment settings are adjusted as needed based upon functionality and visual conditions of the torch
  • Ability to braze the coil joints, adapters, or connections so that they are leak-free, in efforts to correct leaks
  • Practice exceptional housekeeping
  • Primary Trainer & Mentor for team members
  • Communicates recommended process improvements to maintenance & engineering and has the ability to troubleshoot
