About The Position

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Test Technician in Baltimore, MD in support of our North American Vehicles projects, who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. Core purpose: Under general supervision, the Testing Technician will be responsible for the Testing of various type of equipment per manufacturer's testing procedures found in transit light and heavy rail vehicles. The position requires frequent lifting, climbing, standing, crouching, squatting, bending and kneeling. The position may require weekend and/or holiday work. This work must be done in accordance to accepted standards of the trade, supervisory direction, company established procedures, practices, and specifications.

Requirements

  • 0-2+ yrs. Experience Required, in testing of electrical assemblies and Electrical equipment.
  • Requires a thorough understanding of assembly build practices and testing procedures.
  • Must have good mathematical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Electrical Crimping, wire routing, wire stripping, torquing, mechanical assembly, schematics reading, power electronics, electrical / mechanical measurements and troubleshooting methods.
  • 0-2+ Yrs. Experience Preferred in precision measuring equipment (i.e., tape measurers, levels, callipers, micrometer, pi tape, Multimeters, communication data cable verification, etc.)
  • 0-2+ Yrs. Experience Required working within and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Experience with working in diverse and busy team environments.
  • Basic ability to read and understand Engineering schematics and Testing Procedures.
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure and against deadlines.
  • Able to perform testing activities in accordance with engineering specifications and Hitachi Quality standards with some guidance from team leader, supervisor, and/or level 3 or 4 operator.
  • Average Flexi-Matrix Skill Rating for Assigned activities – 0 - 1.5 +
  • Ability to Perform Special Processes Required for troubleshooting – 0 – 1 +
  • Ability to Utilize Special Tools Required for testing activities and troubleshooting – 0 – 1 +
  • Performance of Assigned testing activities At or Below Department Efficiency and Quality Deliverable Targets
  • Ability to work with some supervision from team leader, supervisor, and/or level 3 or 4 operator
  • Self-motivated and able to multi-task
  • Detailed attention to quality control and customer service.
  • Must have a minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate proficiently in English.

Nice To Haves

  • 0-2+ yrs. Experience Desired, in light rail or transportation environment.
  • College/ Technical trade school degree/ certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all Testing activities according to established Hitachi Rail safety protocols: Safe Work Methods Statements (SWMS) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
  • Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards in the workplace.
  • Escalate identified safety hazards, near misses, and/or safety incidents to team leader and/or supervisor
  • Utilization of required PPE according to risk assessment and safe work methods statement for assigned responsibilities
  • Ensure products meet Hitachi Rail quality standards and specifications.
  • Conduct regular quality checks of your activities performed and address any defects or quality issues.
  • Right first-time installation practices.
  • Work closely with the quality control team to resolve production-related quality concerns and prevent re-occurrence of defects in following testing processes.
  • Complete all necessary Manufacturing Inspection Plans Documentation (MIPs), testing reports, control check lists etc..., when required by process.
  • Ensuring the documents are filled out correctly, with serialized tooling information, expiration dates, and utilizing the appropriate documentation revisions.
  • Ensure that all tests are performed utilizing schematics and test documents that are the latest revision based on the Station Documentation Revision Checklist provided by engineering.
  • Drive closure of open inspection findings for your assigned work area and ensure that rework is performed to appropriate Hitachi Quality Standards.
  • Escalate issues that cannot be resolved without assistance from supporting functions to team leader and/or supervisor, as necessary.
  • Receive assignments of daily planned Testing activities from team leader during 7:00 AM morning meeting.
  • Review production metrics during 7:00 AM Production Meeting (e.g., safety, quality, efficiency) implementing prescribed corrective actions from team leader, production supervisor and/or production manager as needed.
  • Perform Testing activities in accordance with Testing Procedures and Engineering schematics and specifications, respecting Hitachi Rail’s safety and quality requirements.
  • Escalate any blocking points that will delay the completion of Testing to the production planning schedule to your team leader and / or production supervisor.
  • Provide end of shift daily update of physical progress to team leader.
