About The Position

St. John Paul II Catholic High School is seeking the next member of its distinguished faculty. Currently, with the growth of the school, we are adding a theology teacher with the ability potentially to teach other humanities courses. The school uses a Great Books context for curriculum design. Depending on experience and interest, courses in the department are shared among its members. This is a full-time position. This staff member ideally could also assist in (but not lead) the school's Catholic formation team, working with a small group of teachers and administrators to run the school's Catholic formational program (small faith groups, Sacraments, retreats, student leaders, etc.). The school seeks to maintain a fully and authentically Catholic environment. Theology candidates must be practicing Catholics. EXPERIENCE WITH HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL INSTRUCTION IS PREFERRED.

Requirements

A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Theology from a Catholic university
A valid Texas Teacher's Certificate, or 12 credit hours in education courses
Technology Proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, multimedia presentations, and internet use for educational purposes)

Responsibilities

Prepare curriculum documents to include standards, scope and sequences, syllabi, and lesson plans
Use appropriate and varied instructional strategies, activities, and materials to promote student success and achievement
Consistently monitor student achievement through appropriate and varied formative and summative assessments
Update the school's electronic gradebook site (RenWeb) with lesson plans and student grades at least once per week
Establish and maintain open communication with students, their parents, and administration
Attend faculty meetings, events, and professional development
Collaborate with other faculty members for professional, instructional, and supervisory duties
Assume a variety of roles in support of student activities outside of class, both during the school day and after normal school hours
