About The Position

This position requires a 12-month commitment where you will learn about infant and early childhood mental health to address child abuse & neglect, trauma (including relationship trauma), and behavioral issues utilizing skills developed through observing & practicing evidence-based therapeutic modalities under the supervision of a licensed therapist within the Therapeutic Services Program. It includes providing direct educational services to caregivers and practicing therapeutic skills with children and families. Services may occur in-office, via telehealth or at a pre-approved, alternative community location. This role does not guarantee employment upon completion of the internship. This role is for educational purposes only and does not replace an employee’s position.

Requirements

  • Currently engaged in a master’s degree program in Social Work, Counseling, Community Mental Health or another related field with plans to seek licensure as LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or other related mental health licensure.
  • Available and willing to commit to 12 months (typically beginning in May and ending the next May).
  • Excellent communication skills, writing skills, and ability to communicate with different audiences.
  • Proficient computer skills (ex. Excel, word, & other Microsoft platforms); good organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of family systems, trauma, attachment theory, and treatment strategies for infants, children, and caregivers.
  • Experience and interest in working with children ages 0-12, caregivers, and families.
  • Experience and interest in collaborating with child welfare & the juvenile court.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and facilitate protective parenting group intake assessments.
  • Observe and facilitate protective parenting groups and individual parent education.
  • Observe, co-lead, and lead (under the supervision of an onsite licensed therapist) therapeutic sessions utilizing evidence-based modalities.
  • Prepare and submit reports for review/approval by identified on-site supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate client records and complete documentation within 48 hours from time of service to meet Council on Accreditation (COA) requirements.
  • Utilize recordings of client sessions and assessments for supervision and consultation for both internal and external purposes.
  • Assist with case management to support client care.
  • Engage in professional learning opportunities particularly in the areas of IECMH and trauma.
  • Develop an understanding of reflective supervision, vicarious trauma, and how to consistently incorporate self-care strategies.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
