About The Position

Major Responsibilities: Able to collect accurate demographic information and enter in Soarian. Able to select the correct EL/ EP/ and Level of Care within Soarian Financials. Able to access HDX or payer web portals to determine eligibility. Able to allocate the correct insurance plan to the patient’s encounter. Exhibits ability to determine the correct coordination of benefits. Understands the clinical impact of incorrect placement and untimely placements. Understands the financial impact of selecting the appropriate Level of Care. Provides customer focused service during the registration and bed placement process. Maintains and promotes compliance with Departmental and Organizational HIPAA guidelines when communicating confidential and private health information of patients, including but not limited to No Press No Info guidelines and patient rights to privacy. Identify, understand and practice all components of MEDS. Accurately records all information about all patient deaths inside the hospital. Notifies all appropriate service areas of the death such as Life Link, Coroner, Pathology, and the correct funeral home. Once all information is complete, the Throughput Navigation Coordinator enters the information into the Death database to permanently record the transactions. The PEM department also uses this database to check and balance their quality reports on deaths. Exhibits critical problem solving skills related to the assignment of beds for patients. Able to manage large volume of work and prioritize patients based on need and resource availability. Works collaboratively with the Nurse Managers, Intake Nurses as well as Nursing AVP’s to determine the most appropriate placement for the patient. Utilizes placement criteria to guide in the decision-making process. Accurately records all information about patient transport from MCCG to another facility. Notifies all appropriate areas of the transfer such as EMS and medical records. Call receiving facility to confirm the patient’s transfer. Once all information is complete, the PAS enters the information into the Transfer out database to permanently record the transactions. Exhibits expertise in the bed placement process and census management. Able to monitor bed availability and capacity issues, begin action processes and notify Leadership of high capacity situations. Evaluates bed closure requests and refers to Leadership. Exhibits expertise in the bed management application as it relates to navigation and completion of tasks. Acts as an expert to others for issues or questions related to system functionality.

Requirements

  • Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required: CPAR, CHAA, FC or Patient Access certification required within 2 years of hire.
  • Education Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience Required: 3 years of experience in Business, Healthcare, Insurance, Financial, or Customer Service related field.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Able to communicate appropriately both verbally and written.
  • Able to exhibit leadership and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to determine and select correct patient using registration skills and technology applications.
  • Ability to make complex decisions necessary for registering patients in Soarian as evidenced by navigating the multiple patient types, locations, and functions.
  • Ability to evaluate and determine the correct Level of Care during the bed assignment applying placement criteria developed in conjunction with Nursing Leadership.
  • Exhibits ability to provide positive customer interaction following the Operation Excellence guidelines always.
  • Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft office products and experience in Soarian Financials and Carelogistics, Cerner’s Electronic Medical Record system.
  • Able to complete the admission notifications timely and accurately.
  • Knowledge of EMTALA and understands concepts to support compliance.
  • Documents in database to support EMTALA tracking including diversion.
  • ability to evaluate and execute the proper sequence steps in changing patient types as requested.
  • Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity.
  • Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using good body mechanics.
  • Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 60-80 pounds, specific to the job class evaluation.
  • Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change from one position to the other rapidly.
  • Must be able to lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds specific to job class evaluation.
  • Must be able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors.
  • Must be able to work in noisy environments and be self directed to complete jobs as ordered.
  • Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations.
  • Must be able to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in multiple overlapping tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to prioritize job tasks and organize work space to be efficient and conducive to completing work tasks as assigned in a timely manner.
  • If job class is identified as falling under POPE C, the individual must pass the cardiac recovery test.
