About The Position

The mission of Ocean Hour Farm (OHF) is to serve as a center for education, scientific research, and demonstration of regenerative agricultural practices. The 43 acre property lies just across the street from the Narragansett Bay, making it an ideal location for highlighting the critical connection between land and ocean health. The vision of the farm is to provide a living example of regenerative agriculture and land stewardship – an integrated system where plants, animals, and people heal ecosystems while producing food and fiber for the community. The OHF Education Department works with numerous local schools and organizations to provide environmental education experiences that highlight this interconnection between ocean, land, and human health and develop ecoliteracy and systems design skills. The Summer 2026 Tide to Land Education Apprenticeship is ideal for a college student or someone early in their career that is serious about building skills in environmental education and interested in learning more about regenerative agriculture. The Tide to Land Education Apprenticeship starts off with an orientation to Ocean Hour Farm and our work. This includes various opportunities to shadow staff members who work in different departments including livestock management, crop production, and ecological monitoring. The Apprentice will then work alongside the Education Program Associate to design, plan, and facilitate Ocean Hour Farm’s Summer 2026 Career Pathways in Regenerative Land Stewardship program. This six-week paid program will expose local high school students (ages 16-19) to a range of careers in regenerative land management (such as agriculture conservation, and landscaping) through hands-on activities, site visits to other organizations, and direct training from leaders in the field. The Tide to Land Education Apprentice will be integral to the success of this program. Their responsibilities will include curriculum development, daily set-up and breakdown, co-teaching, conflict resolution, role modeling, documentation, as well as administrative activities. They will also have the opportunity to collaborate on certain adult education workshops and events throughout the summer. By the end of the Apprenticeship, this individual will be able to confidently lead groups through experiential lessons, have a stronger understanding of systems thinking and glean best practices in informal education with diverse audiences. This apprenticeship will also interweave critical reflection (in the form of check-ins and reflection activities with the Education Program Associate) with the goal of supporting the apprentice in developing their own style, values, and practices around environmental education.

Requirements

Able to commit to the full term of the apprenticeship.
Have relevant work or volunteer experience teaching or leading youth programs.
Have demonstrated interest in the fields of environmental science, education, community engagement and/or sustainable agriculture.
Comfortable speaking in front of groups of youth.
Has an educational background that includes studies in the field of environmental science.
Works well with others and communicates clearly.
Progressive thinker and open-minded, especially to learning new things.
Successful completion of background check, ability to legally work in the USA and valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
Ability to lift 55 pounds on a regular basis; work outside for long periods of time in unfavorable conditions; perform strenuous manual labor requiring considerable walking, lifting, reaching, climbing, stooping, pushing, pulling and carrying.
Familiarity and comfort using Google Suite and other platforms like Canva, Miro, etc.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, to establish and maintain effective relationships with coworkers, visitors, and others in the workplace.
Able to work outdoors in hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions.

Responsibilities

Support the Education Program Associate in curriculum development and logistical planning for the summer career exploration program.
Co-teach lessons and activities as needed related to permaculture design, regenerative agriculture, ecoliteracy, career skills, and team-building.
Connect with guest teachers and other OHF staff to support them during their educational collaborations and learn from their expertise.
Attend staff volunteer days to learn more about regenerative agriculture
Occasionally join the Education Program Associate on partnership development meetings, on and off-site.
Maintain the organization of educational documents and materials.
Perform other duties as assigned.
