Opportunity Summary The Tipper Operator at the Madison Biomass Energy Facility plays a key role in the safe and efficient unloading of biomass fuel to support continuous plant operations. This position involves operating tipper equipment, inspecting incoming deliveries, monitoring fuel quality, and maintaining accurate records while adhering to strict safety protocols. Requirements

  • We are seeking an Operator with a strong focus on safety, and a proven ability to support team success while consistently meeting performance standards.
  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
  • Prior experience operating tipper trucks or related equipment in a biomass facility or similar industrial setting involving material handling and fuel delivery.
  • Solid understanding of tipper truck operation, including safe tipping practices and proper equipment alignment.
  • Working knowledge of basic maintenance protocols, such as performing inspections, identifying mechanical issues, and assisting with minor repairs.
  • Familiarity with plant safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), hazard recognition, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • High attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibility for maintaining safety, fuel quality, and operational standards.
  • Reliable and collaborative team player with effective communication skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional vocational or technical training in industrial operations, equipment handling, or a related field is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Fuel Unloading and Material Handling Operate tipper trailers and equipment to safely and efficiently unload biomass fuel deliveries.
  • Inspect trailer conditions and verify fuel quality prior to tipping to ensure compliance with plant standards.
  • Coordinate trailer movements and tipping sequence to minimize turnaround time and maintain steady material flow.
  • Monitor and adjust the tipping process based on material consistency, weather conditions, and fuel yard capacity.
  • Ensure supplier delivery quotas are tracked and biomass is handled without blockages, spills, or fuel loss.
  • Equipment Inspection and Maintenance Conduct daily pre-use inspections and monitor tipper units for hydraulic, mechanical, and safety issues.
  • Report abnormalities or malfunctions to maintenance personnel and support timely repairs.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks such as greasing, tightening fittings, and replacing worn parts.
  • Keep tipping equipment clean, functional, and ready for operation.
  • Assist maintenance teams with equipment troubleshooting and related support tasks as needed.
  • Safety, Compliance, and Recordkeeping Follow all safety rules, use required PPE, and apply safe work practices during tipping operations.
  • Immediately report hazards, near misses, or equipment failures to supervisors.
  • Participate in safety briefings, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and emergency response drills.
  • Maintain accurate records of biomass deliveries, including truck IDs, volumes, fuel quality, and supplier compliance.
  • Document tipper inspections, service activities, and communicate anomalies to plant management.
  • General Support and Housekeeping Keep the tipping station and unloading area clean, organized, and free of obstructions or debris.
  • Assist with yard duties and collaborate with other personnel to ensure smooth plant operations.
  • Support special projects, planned shutdowns, and biomass inventory management tasks.
  • Contribute to team efforts by responding to evolving plant needs and work assignments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors to support safe and reliable plant performance.

Benefits

  • This position offers a base pay rate of $20 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus.
