About The Position

The Jefferson County Fleet Management Department is seeking well-qualified, motivated Tire Shop Supervisors to perform and oversee comprehensive tire repair and maintenance services at a large automotive shop supporting a fleet of more than 3,000 units. This position will be performing and may be overseeing the diagnosing of tire and rim damage, determining whether items can be safely repaired or must be replaced, and performing preventive maintenance to ensure fleet reliability. Work includes servicing, repairing, and replacing tires and rims on a wide range of light- to heavy-duty vehicles and equipment such as automobiles, trucks, tractors, and graders. The role includes coordinating and guiding assigned staff and managing day-to-day tire shop operations, including work order assignments, vendor coordination, and inventory tracking. Work outcomes are reviewed through inspections, reports, and periodic project update meetings.

Requirements

  • Driver's License. (may be required to obtain Class B CDL within 180 days).
  • Experience in diagnosis, repair, and replacement of tires and wheels on cars and medium-duty trucks using both jacks and pneumatic lifts.
  • Coursework or experience tracking inventory (e.g., tires, rims, weights, valve stems) using a computer.

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience leading shop operations, including assigning work, training staff, monitoring performance, and ensuring quality and safety standards in an automotive or fleet maintenance environment.
  • Work experience managing tire shop operations such as work orders, inventory tracking, parts ordering, scheduling repairs, vendor coordination, or maintaining shop records.
  • Possession of a Class A or Class B commercial driver's license (CDL).

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, monitors, and administers departmental or organizational budget by reviewing spending trends, expenditure reports, analyzing financial data and ensuring expenditures are within annual budgetary limits.
  • Procures and/or manages inventory (i.e., supplies and equipment) to ensure the products and services are available to meet the operational needs of each department.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and minor repair work on equipment and rolling stock.
  • Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
  • Repairs tires on equipment/rolling stock using appropriate tools and apparatus.
  • Reviews and monitors budget reports and expenditure information in order to maintain expenses within the established budget.
  • Evaluates need for supplies, equipment, and services and processes orders for purchase in compliance with established purchasing and requisitioning regulations and procedures.
  • Coordinates with employees and supervisors in other departments to schedule field or shop service.
