About The Position

Performs the key responsibilities of a team member plus assists management with day to day guidance to ensure the team operates effectively. Primary emphasis is leading by example and sharing acquired knowledge. A teacher who, as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team, plays a critical role in helping a school reach their student achievement goals. Spends part of the day providing high-quality instruction in own classroom as a teacher and part of the day developing a team of teachers’ ability to deliver joyful, rigorous, and personalized instruction that leads to high academic achievement. Serves as a content area expert, facilitates collaborative team time, provides 1-on-1 observation and coaching to peers, and facilitates the end-to-end Leading Effective Academic Practice (LEAP) growth and performance evaluation for each teacher on the team. Contributes to the year-long professional development plan and provides whole staff professional learning (when relevant) in area(s) of expertise. Collaborates with school leaders and team specialists to align teacher supports to advancement of school-wide instructional priorities.   Expected Outcomes include building the instructional capacity of a team of teachers and developing a team culture of continuous learning that maximizes staff and student morale and performance. Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required. 
  • A Master's Degree is only required for Concurrent Enrollment positions.

  • ELA-S (English Language Acquisition - Spanish) ONLY 
  • Teaching in both Spanish and English positions, candidates are required to take the Spanish language proficiency (SLP) exam, proctored by Berlitz Testing. Additionally, if a teacher has taken, or chooses to take, the Praxis II - Spanish: World Language 5195 exam, it will also work at DPS as an appropriate SLP exam, as long as the candidate scores 163 or higher on the Praxis II (#5195) [https://www.ets.org/praxis/prepare/materials/5195] exam.
  • ELA-S ONLY: Must be Bilingual in Spanish and English Required. 
  • At least two (2) years of demonstrated teacher effectiveness through effective or equivalent end-of-year ratings through the LEAP growth and performance system, or a comparable, multiple measure, growth and performance system.

Responsibilities

  • May participate in extra-duty activities such as coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, as outlined in the Teachers’ Collective Bargaining Agreement and in accordance with Department of Labor regulations.
  • Plans and organizes: helps ensure work is completed, based on priorities set by management. Guides the team's success; monitors progress towards goals, action plans, deadlines, and standards. Tactfully assigns or suggests work assignments to the team according to aptitude, skills, work load and interests.
  • Coaches and advises: leads and influences the team's best work by serving as an escalation point; solves routine problems, prevents conflicts, and gives limited direct feedback. Provides instruction and guidance to ensure full understanding of designated activities.
  • Training and development: provides ongoing opportunities to help improve daily work skills; educates new team members, hosts meetings, coaches, and encourages showcase of strengths. Ensures compliance with district by enforcing standard practices and procedures. 
  • Communication: maintains a close relationship and regularly discusses workload and deadlines with the team and management. Reports status to team members and managers, including cost, scope, quality, time, performance, and output to create a positive team atmosphere and keep everyone informed.
