About The Position

MARSHALLTOWN, one of the largest construction tool manufacturers in the world, is seeking a Tool and Die Intern to join our operation at our Marshalltown, IA facility. Since 1890, MARSHALLTOWN has made reliable, industry-leading construction tools and equipment for various industries: masonry, drywall, concrete, asphalt, tile, flooring, painting, archaeology, and more. MARSHALLTOWN aims to constantly innovate the construction tool and equipment industry, looking for new ways to help finish jobs faster, better, and with more ease. Their tools can be found in major hardware retailers in the United States and around the world. The Tool and Die Intern represents the future of the Tool Room; the selected candidate will learn about tool and die, manual machinist responsibilities and CNC machining. The Tool and Die Intern will go through an extended training program that will include: Cleaning, organization, and discipline in a Tool Room. Tool Room basics Tool and Die maintenance and operation. Manual equipment like surface grinders, Bridgeport Mill, Manual Lathe, etc. Measuring equipment CNC operation Fixture fabrication Blueprint reading

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Basic understanding/ability to read Blueprints/drawings
  • Basic knowledge of measurement equipment like calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, gage blocks.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Lathes and Mills.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of cutting tools used in a Tool Room
  • Satisfactory Performance on the Mechanical Aptitude Skills test

Responsibilities

  • Follow Tool Room best practices of cleaning, organization, and discipline at all times.
  • Effective communication with co-workers.
  • Perform any tasks assigned.
  • Assist with making, altering, and repairing gauges, jigs, fixtures, die, tools and other devices.
  • Learn to set up and operate all tool room equipment and improvise where equipment is limited.
  • Learn to build and repair molds.
  • Use of variety of precision measuring instruments, hand tools, machine shop equipment and mills, lathes, grinders, etc.
  • Follow safety rules and keep work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Complete proper documentation as required.
