About The Position

Tekni-Plex in Blauvelt, NY is searching for a Tool & Die Tech for its 1st shift (8:00 am – 4:30 am). The Tool & Die Tech is responsible for the maintenance, assembly, and troubleshooting of tooling and dies. The role focuses on cleaning, preventive maintenance, and efficient troubleshooting while ensuring adherence to safety procedures and quality standards. Machine shop skills, precision measurements and required tools. The primary duties include safe and precise tool and die installation and uninstallation. Attention to the procedures established for pre-setup, disassembly, and auxiliary equipment installations. What will you do? Analyze operating tool problems both in the Tool Room and on the production floor Inspect finished dies (new or repaired) for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects. Conduct test runs or sample orders with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary. Cut, shape, and trim to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules, and hand tools. File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together. Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools. Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, EDM wire machine and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes. Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly. Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders. Perform tool changes on precision machines, focusing on the installation and uninstallation of tooling and dies. Execute detailed tools and dies cleaning, sharpening and assembly, ensuring preventive maintenance to avoid production delays. Troubleshoot tooling and dies efficiently, minimizing machine downtime and ensuring product quality. Follow the exact procedures for pre-setup, disassembly, and equipment installation. Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and geometric dimensioning to ensure proper assembly and adjustments. Use technical mathematics to perform precise measurements and calculations for precision machine setup. Maintain documentation of maintenance activities and report issues to the Maintenance Supervisor and area Manager. Apply safety measures like Lock Out/Tag Out and ensure compliance with PPE requirements. Use basic measurements elements with caliper, micrometer, dial indicators. Perform basic pneumatic assemblies Support the trial and implementation of new tooling and dies, providing feedback on performance and fit. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize tool and die maintenance practices. Engage in training programs to remain current with technological advancements tool and die handling. Assist with audits and inspections to ensure all maintenance practices comply with quality and safety standards. Promote personal and product safety. Is competent and supports the companies ISO standards for Product Safety 22000 and HACCP. Ensures Quality of products and processes are maintained. Is competent and supports the companies ISO standards for Product Quality 15378. Other duties may be assigned. What skills do you bring to the role? Associates degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or Three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Finished Tool & Die apprenticeship or proper training courses Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write detail correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one setting and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Technical Mathematics: Proficiency in mathematical calculations for technical tasks. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
