About The Position

Work includes assignment planning, layout, set up, operating and making tool adjustments for various tools of manual and CNC machine shop equipment. Works from blueprints, process sheets, and sketches to perform tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. Duties and Responsibilities: Review engineering drawings from sketches, graphic illustrations or verbal/written correspondence to plan sequence of operations. Compute angular and linear dimensions. Determine cutting or grinding tools to be used, method of holding, and machine speeds and feeds. Improvises and adapts standard tooling. Performs typical operations such as turning, facing, boring, chamfering, turning tapers, drilling, grooving, reaming, machining compound angles, multiple angles, radii, splines, serrations, keyways, etc. Performs all types of milling, drilling, reaming, boring, tapping, slotting, and dovetailing on ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys. Operates and/or performs machine set up for any lathe, horizontal or vertical milling machine, or grinding machine. May operate computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines. Lifts, cuts, loads and secures raw stock into machining equipment. Grinds cutting tools. May perform preventive maintenance on machines. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices. Ability to use gaging tools to ensure project adheres to blueprints. Additional functions/other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Associate degree, technical/trade school training or equivalent and/two (2) or more years related experience, preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to pass a hands-on machining test.
  • Additional experience may be substituted for formal education.
  • The ability to perform non-routine or moderately complex set-up and fabrication of machined parts with little direction.
  • Strong knowledge of machining equipment including ability to use sound judgment and safe practices.
  • PPE is required.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, sketches, verbal and written instructions.
  • Skills to maintain the flow of work within the unit using independent judgment to solve non-routine problems and to recommend solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and written communication skills to interface with employees and management.
  • The ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential.
  • Some training will be provided.
  • US citizenship is required.
