About The Position

SUMMARY Sets up, analyzes, and operates variety of machine tools, such as radial drill press, lathes, milling machines, EDM, shapers, and grinders, to machine metal work pieces such as patterns and machine tool or die parts, according to specifications, tooling instructions, and standard charts. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Analyzes specification and determines tooling, applying knowledge of metal properties, machining, and shop mathematics. Studies blueprint or layout on work piece to visualize machining required and plans sequence of operations. Lifts work piece manually or using hoist and positions and secures it to holding device such as machine table, chuck, or fixture, using wrenches and aids, such as shims, parallel blocks, planter gauges, clamps. Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications, such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instruction, such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and determines sequence of operations. Positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures, using clamps and wrenches. Moves controls to position tool and work piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut. Sets up fixture or feeding device, starts machine, and turns hand wheel to feed tool to work piece or vice versa and engages feed. Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers and CMM. Performs routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM. Works individually and as a team to develop and implement quality and efficiency improvements. Conducts tests and inspections of products, or processes to evaluate quality or performance; examines products or work to verify conformance to specifications. Food Safety Responsible and required to notify management about actual or potential food safety issues; and empowered to act to resolve food safety issues within their scope of work. If this position is vacant for any significant period of time the obligation for completion of all food safety and quality related tasks will become the responsibility of the direct manager or a qualified designee.

Requirements

  • diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Possesses all basic and some advanced skills and knowledge.
  • Has a thorough understanding of the total process flow.
  • Must have basic knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with production processes, machines and/or tools.
  • The employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee must frequently stand, walk, bend and twist, reach with hands and arms, climb, stoop, kneel.
  • Regular fingering, grasping, and feeling: requires repetitive movement with frequent use of hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls and hand-eye coordination.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus regularly.

Nice To Haves

  • Machinist certification and/or coursework preferred.
  • Requires forklift, crane and hoist certification.
