Requirements

  • Education: Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of molding or manufacturing experience in a tooling technician or similar role.
  • Other Skills & Abilities:
  • Must maintain valid forklift driver's license.
  • Must possess the ability to read measurement tools, micrometers, dial calipers, etc. Must have a working knowledge of shop equipment including, but not limited too, surface grinder, Bridgeport mill, Lathe, & sandblast cabinet.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products to properly document specific duties in the Tooling Department.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English to properly document and convey tooling related issues to management and outside vendors as needed. Must be able to document the condition of tooling at the Incoming Inspection phase, PM’s, tool damage evaluations, & repairs.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to identify and solve practical problems dealing with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Due to ITAR and / or CUI compliance, this position requires candidates to be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident Alien, or Protected Individual per 8 U.S.C.1324b(a)(3).

Responsibilities

  • The Tooling Technician is responsible for performing all relevant duties to provide production-ready molds and tooling to machine work cells in a safe and timely manner.
  • Works from schedule, oral and written instructions. View and or read and fully understand all training devices as they are made available.
  • Accurately and efficiently cleans, maintains and stores existing molds in a safe and orderly manner. Changes configurations of molds as required by the daily production schedule.
  • Inspects and trouble-shoots molds, in conjunction with processing personnel, to determine any necessary modifications, repairs, or potential improvements.
  • Supports the Tooling, Maintenance, and Production Departments by performing basic machining services as needed in repairing or modifying molds, jigs, fixtures, equipment, etc., using the in-house Surface Grinder, Lathe, and Bridgeport Milling Machine.
  • Interacts/communicates with tooling vendors, both locally and globally, providing valuable input of required information or concerns involved in new or existing tooling projects.
  • Documents and updates tooling related records of all mold maintenance, modifications, repairs, and continuous improvements in Company database, as well as, Changeover and Spare Components Inventory lists located in the tooling cabinets to minimize downtime on off shifts.
  • Manages inventory of tool cleaning supplies, spare components, and tools needed to perform daily tasks in a timely manner without unnecessary downtime.
  • Works with the Tooling Manager to document and implement an electronic system of changeover instructions, and assembly/disassembly instructions of complex tooling to share with off shifts and new personnel.
  • Provides training to shop floor personnel in regards to proper care and maintenance of tooling under the care of Injection Works.
  • Responsible to propose a minimum of 3 continuous improvement ideas benefitting the department, company, or safety of employees per year.
  • Participates in training seminars/webinars to expand personal knowledge of best practices and skills to better support our customers and care of their property.
  • Responsible for safety and maintenance of all Company and customer assets. Reports any unsafe action or equipment to management.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
