About The Position

As a Tooling Technician, you will be responsible for performing work such as basic heat treating, MIG/ TIG welding, silver soldering, precision hand fitting, and performing rework for necessary repairs of mold damage and flash repairs. The Tooling Technician will also be responsible to track inventories of spare parts, operate mills, lathes and surface grinders. This role will disassemble molds and repair as necessary and operate large cranes while manipulating molds up to 15 tons. Knowledge of hot runner systems, CNC, and ability to observe mold operations in presses and diagnose issues is preferred. This role is 2nd Shift: Monday-Friday 2pm-10:30pm with some weekend work and overtime as needed.

Requirements

  • Toolmaker/ CNC machinist for a minimum of 10 years and 2-year technical degree in related field or 4-year degree in related field or 2-year tech degree with 10 years related experience. (experience and depth of knowledge will be considered in lieu of education)
  • This position may require hot work, standing up to 100%, lifting up to 75 lbs, overhead work, kneeling, bending, crawling, pushing, pulling, climbing, and working at heights.
  • Ability to work weekends as necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of hot runner systems, CNC, and ability to observe mold operations in presses and diagnose issues is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate powered mobile equipment per company standards.
  • Maintain production, maintenance, S.P.C., deviations and other required records and logs, as instructed.
  • Working from drawings, procedure sheets, sample parts or sketches, lay out work, set up and operate all machine tools and accessory control devices to fabricate a wide variety of parts.
  • Make basic tools or fixtures to facilitate work when necessary.
  • Develop, edit and/or correct accessory control tapes and programs.
  • Enter and retrieve information to and from data terminal as required.
  • Build, assemble, adjust, and try out a variety of assemblies, sub-assemblies, jigs, or fixtures using standard, special, or made-up parts.
  • Construct new equipment working from prints, drawings, sketches, and/or sample equipment.
  • Work with engineers, designers, and/or other management personnel to set up, operate, and debug any assigned mold and/or equipment.
  • Observe specific parts of equipment and material in process to determine or analyze the cause of machine malfunctions.
  • Repair and/or make any parts to conform to latest mold prints/ 3D data.
  • Inspect and measure your own work and make necessary corrections in set-up if parts are out of tolerance.
  • Notify supervision of dimensional errors on drawings or of machining errors.
  • Perform other work such as basic heat treating, MIG/ TIG welding, silver solder, precision hand fitting, miscellaneous bench work.
  • Retrieve data from the tooling drive terminal, etc.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and periodic operation checks on assigned equipment as instructed.
  • Move or assist to move any equipment as instructed.
  • Provide assistance to the Maintenance department for special breakdown machining intervention.
  • Maintain all records and logs as required.
  • Report and order any low stock inventories.
  • Must be able to manipulate Catia, UG, and MasterCam (or similar) software.
  • Must be able to design complex geometry using solid modeling and create cutter paths ready for CNC machining.
  • Must be able to design and build complex fixturing/ inserts, to align with the business needs.
  • Mentor and be responsible for Tooling Services Toolmaker/s and Improver/s.
  • Train other members of the machine shop to improve their knowledge of CNC programming/ machining.
  • Provide efficient methods to utilize the CNC equipment, setting up programs to run on the off shifts.
  • Completing each phase of responsibility by knowing, understanding and adhering to all TS16949 standard operating procedures.
  • Notifying designated personnel of any irregularities in materials, process or equipment.
  • Performing each phase of job in full compliance with all company, state and/or federal safety and environmental regulations.
  • This position impacts the significant environment aspects of the ISO14001 environmental management system.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervision.
