About The Position

ENSCO is seeking a Track Maintainer with experience within the railway industry to provide maintenance, repair and inspection of track in support of research, testing and training services to the railway industry in the areas of track; rolling stock; signals and communications; and human factors.

Requirements

  • GED or higher (or equivalent), and 3 years of work experience, including at least 1+ years of experience in maintaining track or equivalent
  • Capable of working outdoors in adverse weather, including rain, snow, heat, and cold.
  • Observe all safety and security procedures; determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain focus for the entirety of the shift
  • Ability to build professional and courteous relationships with colleagues and supervisors
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a diverse interdisciplinary team
  • Must be able to safely climb a 15-foot-high ladder
  • Railroad regulations require that the selected candidate must pass an e-RAILSAFE security background check and online safety tests to work on railroad properties. Wearing safety equipment (hard hats, steel-toe boots, protective vest, and protective eyeglasses) when working on railroad properties is also a requirement. ENSCO will provide all necessary safety equipment.
  • This safety-sensitive position will be subject to drug and alcohol screening.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years' experience performing track maintenance in accordance with FRA track standards.
  • Experience performing maintenance and repairs of track in support of testing operations.
  • Experience with Thermite Welding processes using Railtech Boutet, Inc. and Orgo-Thermit, Inc. systems.
  • Experience with the use of Oxygen/Propane cutting operation.
  • AWS-certification specializing in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).
  • Capable of setting up, adjusting, and using plasma cutters to perform high-accuracy cuts.
  • Knowledge and experience in selecting appropriate materials and repair methods in accordance with FRA track standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, repair and inspect railroad track on various classes of test track using hand & track tools, materials and equipment.
  • Operate spike puller to pull old spikes from ties.
  • Drill holes through rails, tie plates, and joint bars for insertion of bolts and spikes, using a power drill.
  • Operate a track-wrench machine to tighten or loosen bolts at joint bars.
  • Operate rail saw to cut rails to specified lengths.
  • Operate a portable grinder to grind the worn ends of rails.
  • Raise rail, using a hydraulic jack, to facilitate removal of old tie and installation of new tie.
  • Assist with railcar repairs in compliance with FRA, AAR interchange rules and railcar testing.
  • Attend rules and safety classes and ensure all rules are followed as directed by the Company, FRA, and other governing agencies.
  • Works around and operates forklift, overhead cranes and mobile equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports documenting all maintenance operations and repairs.
  • Perform interior and exterior railcar, locomotive, and heavy equipment cleaning.
  • Ensure safe operation of equipment by adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Must possess reasoning ability to solve practical problems.
  • General housekeeping of work areas.
  • Identify malfunctioning equipment or defective materials and promptly notify supervisor.
  • Comply with all operating rules, policies and guidelines.
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and measurements to plan and execute accurate job tasks.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Company.
