About The Position

Overview: Under the general supervision of the Trades & Custodial Manager and the Trades Specialist, the Trades Assistant performs construction and maintenance of District physical assets. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Perform cleaning and maintenance of shop and office spaces, restrooms, and grounds areas. Assist Trades Specialists with repairs of all aspects of the District buildings and facilities. Complete room set-up and tear-down to accommodate scheduled activities including recreation programs, meetings, special events , and rentals. Install engineered wood fiber on park playground surfaces. Serve on the team that installs and paints District signage . Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies. Gather information necessary for the preparation of reports, proposals, and budgets. Demonstrate and support District customer service standards. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Operate a variety of equipment and motor vehicles. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to understand a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and manual tasks and ability to learn methods, practices, use and operation of equipment and tools used in general maintenance and construction. Ability to understand operator's manuals and ability to read and interpret drawings. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license. Special Considerations: Must be at least 18 years old. Subject to both office and outside environmental conditions. Subject to modified /flexible work schedules including weekends . Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing ≤ 3 0 lbs . on a daily basis . Lifting assistance is when lifting > 3 0 lbs. Prolonged lifting, stooping, bending, twisting, standing, and climbing. Manual dexterity and strength to operate power-operated machines and equipment. Ability to travel to and work at all Naperville Park District facilities. Exposure to pesticides, chemicals, dust, fumes, dirt, loud noise, and insect bites. Regular onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.
