About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Traffic Engineering/ITS Practice Lead for our Transportation Team in our San Antonio, TX office! The San Antonio Traffic/ITS Practice Lead will focus on workload for the San Antonio team, business development, marketing, and project pursuits that will help to further strengthen our presence in Texas and Louisiana markets. This person will provide leadership to a talented group of professionals spanning all career levels as they work on a multitude of transportation projects. The Traffic/ITS Practice Lead will rely upon Civil Engineering background to excel at client relations, business development and mentoring staff. Be involved in projects with our Texas-Louisiana Region Leadership Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. The right candidate will help to mentor staff as well as help to increase the San Antonio office's footprint with key clients across South Texas. They will be responsible for a growing staff, personnel management, project management and reporting to regional management statewide. Your Impact Provide leadership, oversight, mentoring and overall management of the San Antonio Traffic Team. Leads growth and development of the San Antonio Traffic team, including interfacing with the Local Business Leaders, meeting with clients to develop and expand work, and strategically teaming with other consultants. Performs a range of marketing and business development activities, including gathering client intelligence, leading pursuits and proposals, and interfacing through professional organizations. Manages tasks as part of project development, including plan and report production. Interfaces with staff from a range of other disciplines (civil, planning, structures, geotechnical, etc.) to support a diverse range of projects. Improve overall quality and delivery of projects throughout discipline. Assists in supporting agency coordination, permitting, and public participation activities. Participate in ensuring adherence to Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures on all projects. Coordinate in tandem with WSP statewide counterparts to develop strategies for: key hires, project pursuits, team growth, area growth and profitability, employee engagement and satisfaction. The San Antonio Traffic/ITS Practice lead must be able to work in technical, business development, marketing, and project management roles. Experience working in the Texas market areas is a plus! Perform engineering design plans and specifications, develop traffic control plans and engineering contracts, conduct periodic construction inspections, analyze traffic operations and safety to ensure that they comply with applicable state and/or federal regulations and sound engineering practice and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (M.S. in Civil Engineering is strongly preferred)
  • 12+ years of experience in transportation and infrastructure projects
  • Minimum 5 years leading, managing and mentoring teams of civil engineers and technicians
  • Demonstrated experience with State and local governments, contractors, transportation agencies and professional organizations
  • Strong project experience with agencies across South Texas
  • Strong history and experience with TxDOT projects and programs
  • Strong project management skills and experience
  • Strong technical skills relevant to traffic signal, signing, pavement marking, ITS and civil roadway design
  • Strong technical skills relevant to traffic operations analysis, including Synchro and VISSIM modeling
  • Working experience with marketing, business development, project pursuits, and proposal preparation
  • Experience mentoring and developing technical capabilities of mid-level and junior staff
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong (proven) management and interpersonal skills
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Texas
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in engineering.
  • Strong experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline-specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi-project environment is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience managing staff
  • Knowledge of the local San Antonio and South Texas transportation market.
