About The Position

The Dallas Children's Advocacy Center is seeking an experienced Training and Community Outreach Specialist for the Education and Training Department. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Training and Community Outreach Specialist delivers high-quality education and prevention programming to adults, children, and teens across the community. This role serves as a public-facing ambassador for Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC), providing expert training on child abuse prevention, recognition, and response while supporting curriculum development, learning management systems, and in-house education initiatives. ABOUT DCAC: The mission of the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center is to improve the lives of abused children in Dallas County and to provide national leadership on child abuse issues. DCAC is a non-profit organization and the only agency of its kind in Dallas County, working in agreement with public and private agencies to investigate, prosecute, and provide healing services for child abuse cases in Dallas County. We reduce the victimization of the child, remove barriers to investigation and treatment, and enhance criminal prosecution with our distinctive multidisciplinary and united approach to these complex and severe cases, all at no cost to our clients. Each year, DCAC serves over 13,000 children and their non-offending family members. We are a national and international leader in the Children's Advocacy Center movement, recognized for our expertise in the identification, investigation, and prosecution of child abuse cases; cutting edge clinical services and programs for the victims and their non-offending family members; and our community and professional training programs.

Requirements

  • Education and experience: bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or similar field from an accredited university and at least 2-3 years of experience in education field with at least 1-2 years presenting to the public.
  • Required License(s) or Certifications: Valid and clear driver’s license.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems.
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
  • ​​Ability to work evenings as required by training and outreach needs, with occasional weekend mornings or afternoons (Saturday or Sunday) scheduled in advance.
  • Knowledge of intermediate level proficiency with MS Windows, Word, and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of employees, board members, partners, and community.

Responsibilities

  • Public Speaking Outreach: Deliver engaging, professional presentations on DCAC services and child abuse-related topics including: DCAC 101 Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse Best Practices for Responding to Child Abuse on Campus Internet Safety Human Trafficking Child Safety Matters / Teen Safety Matters Keeping Children Safe from Harm
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners including school districts, faith communities, child-care centers, higher education institutions, youth-serving organizations, multidisciplinary teams, and other Children’s Advocacy Centers.
  • Develop and expand outreach efforts by identifying and securing at least two (2) new community partners annually, conducting presentations, reviewing leads, and submitting curriculum proposals.
  • Represent DCAC at community events, multidisciplinary team staffing, conferences, and networking engagements.
  • Promote DCAC education offerings, tours, and training events to professionals including law enforcement, medical and mental health providers, educators, and community leaders.
  • Maintain accurate outreach records, account activity, and education calendar data.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of educational materials.
  • Serve as a liaison connecting potential donors, volunteers, and advocates with appropriate DCAC departments.
  • Participate in media interviews as assigned, sometimes with limited notice.
  • Manage the Education department email inbox and respond promptly with accurate information.
  • Lecture Series & In-House Training Support customers with Learning Management System (LMS) account setup, troubleshooting, and reporting.
  • Ensure all PowerPoint presentations and training materials are current with legislation, research, statistics, and emerging trends.
  • Conduct regular content reviews and updates to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Research child abuse prevention and response best practices and participate in professional development opportunities to maintain subject-matter expertise.
  • Curriculum Development and Monitoring: Support customers with Learning Management System (LMS) account setup, user enrollment, permissions, troubleshooting, and reporting.
  • Develop, build, and maintain online training courses within the LMS, including uploading content, organizing modules, creating quizzes/assessments, and ensuring a user-friendly learning experience.
  • Collaborate with Education team members to translate in-person curriculum into engaging virtual learning modules.
  • Monitor course functionality, test updates, and troubleshoot technical issues to ensure smooth delivery of online training.
  • Generate participation and completion reports and provide data analysis as needed for internal tracking and external partners.
  • Ensure all LMS content remains current with updated legislation, research, statistics, and emerging trends.
  • Conduct regular review and quality assurance checks of both online and in-person curriculum to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Research child abuse prevention and response best practices and participate in professional development opportunities to maintain subject-matter expertise.
  • Other Duties: Support agency-wide events (e.g., ART, Trunk or Treat, Holiday of Hope) as assigned.
  • Assist with Education department projects and events including planning, materials preparation, and on-site support.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, supervision meetings, and required trainings.
  • Participate in the Crimes Against Children Conference as assigned.
  • Complete all required position-based and compliance trainings in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
