What this job involves: As the Data Center Training Manager, you'll be the architect of technical excellence for mission-critical infrastructure operations, building the capabilities that keep our data center facilities running safely and efficiently 24/7/365. This leadership role puts you at the intersection of technical expertise and people development—designing hands-on training programs that cover everything from power distribution and cooling systems to fire suppression and emergency response, while leading a team of instructors and coordinators who bring these programs to life. You'll partner closely with operations managers, engineering teams, and facility leadership to ensure every technician has the skills and certifications needed to operate complex infrastructure with confidence and precision. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Education, or related technical field with minimum 4+ years of progressive experience in technical training, data center operations, or critical facilities management
  • Solid technical understanding of data center infrastructure including electrical systems, HVAC technologies, building automation, and life safety systems with ability to translate complex concepts into effective training content
  • Proven leadership experience managing training teams and coordinating complex, multi-faceted training initiatives across technical and operational disciplines
  • Strong presentation and communication abilities with demonstrated capacity to develop training materials for diverse learning styles and experience levels, from entry-level technicians to senior engineers
  • Demonstrated experience designing, facilitating, and evaluating emergency drills and exercises in high-stakes operational environments with ability to provide constructive feedback that drives continuous improvement
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills for managing concurrent training programs, tracking compliance requirements, and maintaining detailed documentation across multiple facilities
  • Proficiency with learning management systems, training technologies, and Microsoft Office applications for program administration, reporting, and stakeholder communication
  • Experience with adult learning principles and various instructional methods including classroom instruction, online learning, and hands-on technical training delivery

  • Professional training certifications such as CPTD (Certified Professional in Talent Development) or ATD (Association for Talent Development) credentials
  • Data center industry certifications including DCCA (Data Center Certified Associate), EPI (Energy Efficiency Professional), CDCP, or similar technical credentials
  • Emergency management or incident command system training such as ICS-100/200/300, FEMA emergency management certifications, or similar crisis response credentials
  • Experience implementing learning management systems or training technology platforms in technical environments
  • Background in developing competency frameworks and assessment programs for technical roles in regulated or high-reliability industries
  • Previous experience in mission-critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or advanced manufacturing environments

Responsibilities

  • Oversee comprehensive training operations including scheduling, instructor assignments, resource coordination, and facility logistics while ensuring training activities align with operational demands and minimize disruption to critical infrastructure
  • Design and deliver technical training programs covering mission-critical systems such as power distribution, cooling infrastructure, fire suppression, security systems, and environmental monitoring, conducting skill gap assessments to target development needs
  • Lead and develop a team of training coordinators, technical instructors, and support staff, providing coaching and establishing quality standards that ensure consistent, high-impact training experiences across all programs
  • Implement and manage mandatory safety training covering electrical safety, confined space procedures, emergency response protocols, and regulatory compliance, tracking certifications and renewal schedules to maintain 100% compliance
  • Design and execute comprehensive emergency readiness programs that prepare operations teams for critical incidents including power failures, fire events, equipment malfunctions, and natural disasters.
  • Develop realistic emergency scenarios that test response capabilities across multiple failure modes and coordinate regularly scheduled drills that simulate actual crisis conditions.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of drill performance using structured assessment criteria to measure response times, protocol adherence, communication effectiveness, and decision-making quality.
  • Deliver detailed post-drill feedback sessions and written after-action reports that identify strengths, gaps, and improvement opportunities, working with operations leadership to implement corrective actions and refine emergency procedures based on drill findings.
  • Develop competency-based assessments and practical evaluations to validate technical skills, maintaining comprehensive training records and certification documentation that support regulatory requirements and career progression
  • Integrate learning technologies including LMS platforms, simulation software, and digital learning tools to enhance training effectiveness, evaluating emerging methodologies and managing technology adoption across training programs
  • Collaborate with operations managers, engineering teams, HR, and facility leadership to align training initiatives with business objectives, coordinating with vendors for specialized technical training and ensuring programs drive operational excellence
