Our department provides a variety of financial services and programs. Austin Financial Services (AFS) serves residents, vendors, and City departments. Our mission is to serve as a trusted steward of public resources with integrity and accountability to ensure a fiscally sound city. Our staff supports a wide variety of financial processes, including preparing the annual budget and annual fiscal report, procurement processes, franchise agreements, real estate transactions, and overseeing the City’s investment portfolio and debt management. Job Description: Training Specialist Senior - Austin Financial Services Purpose: Leads and coordinates training activities to include development of curriculum and delivery of job specific training to meet departmental initiatives. Notes to Candidate: Austin Financial Services is seeking a Training Specialist Senior to fill a key role on the Data, Strategy, and Process Support (DSPS) team. This position will lead the development and delivery of financial training resources for internal and external audiences. Course development projects would cover the full spectrum activities overseen by the Department including accounting, procurement, investment and real estate acquisition to name a few. Responsibilities include designing, producing, and maintaining eLearning and instructor-led training materials aligned with financial policies, procedures, and systems; with a special focus on creating supportive audio and visual media including animations and software simulations using complex training development software. This position will oversee training administration for relevant courses within Workday and provide support to other training administrators within the department. This position will also review the work of others (training materials and events) to identify opportunities for improvement and increased effectiveness in line with adult learning principles. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess strong critical thinking skills and a demonstrated love of learning, especially for new technologies.

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job, plus three (3) years of experience in a technical training environment.
  • Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
  • Licensing for specific disciplines may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with real estate or financial processes and data.
  • Strong understanding and application of adult learning principles to enhance training effectiveness.
  • Experience creating eLearning modules using Adobe Captivate, Articulate 360, or similar software.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and performs needs assessments to analyze and identify short-term and long-term organizational training needs.
  • Surveys various training techniques, materials, and commercial offerings to select the most appropriate process for the delivery of training.
  • Researches commercial training offerings and determines feasibility of use.
  • Develops written training materials, visual aids, and reference materials, including course curriculums.
  • Develops and administers assessments of staff skills for use in developing training strategies and curriculum, and effectiveness of delivery.
  • Delivers targeted, audience-appropriate instructor-led training sessions.
  • Coordinates student and facility schedules for delivery of training, and maintains and prepares appropriate records of participation.
  • Performs preproduction, production, and postproduction work on computer- and video-training materials that use computer and streaming audio-visual technologies for on-demand use.
  • Analyzes laws, codes, and policies, and consults with subject matter experts to design and develop curriculum related to trainees' needs.
  • Conducts research or surveys to determine the effectiveness of training provided.
  • Provides leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.
