About The Position

The Transcriptionist is primarily responsible for transcribing the dictations of patient care and treatment into comprehensive typed records by performing the duties as outlined below.

Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of word-processing software.
  • Knowledge of medical transcription standards, guidelines and practices including legal responsibilities related to confidentiality.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for extensive periods of time.
  • Ability to type 50 – 60 wpm from a digital voice integrated system
  • Ability to use transcription equipment including earphones and foot controls.
  • Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years medical transcription experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Listens to dictation and transcribes notes into well-organized and accurate typewritten statements and submits for review in a timely fashion when complete.
  • Transcribes complex medical terms and ensures that the meaning of the reports do not change.
  • Edits EMR notes.
  • Detects any discrepancies in dictation and edits them accordingly.
  • Transcribes dictation list from appointment schedule and completes list on a daily basis.
  • Ensures all dictation is in the accurate work-in-process step.
  • Checks for missing dictation.
  • Prints and files notes daily.
  • Develops an extensive knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with a variety of medical documents.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned to help drive our mission of delivering high-quality and compassionate cancer care in our community, for our community, and by oncologists who live in our community.
