About The Position

The Transducer Design Engineer II will perform engineering design, development, and sustaining tasks. Assist senior engineers in various phases of ongoing projects and lead projects as assigned. Work with a dynamic team of product managers, mechanical, acoustical and manufacturing engineers to create new best-in-class single element conventional, phased array transducers, and conventional eddy current probes. Work includes concept generation, CAD design and documentation, FMEA, fixture design and testing.

Requirements

  • CAD proficiency (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, AutoCAD)
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing processes
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and simulation tools
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • Root cause analysis and failure mode identification
  • Project and time management
  • Communication and team collaboration
  • 2 + years in a research and design or manufacturing environment is required
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or electromechanical engineering, Physics, or equivalent work experience
  • Basic understanding of piezeoelectricity and ultrasonic transducer design is a plus
  • Experience with electronic change notice process and PLM systems
  • Proficiency with 3D modelling software (Solidworks preferred)
  • Documentation in accordance with ISO standards
  • Must be a result-oriented change agent who demonstrates an analytical approach to problem solving
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple tasks simultaneously is desired.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to effectively communicate cross functionally and to both leadership and frontline teams.
  • Demonstrated structured problem- solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the design and manufacture of eddy current, single element and/or phased array products preferred
  • Understanding of Six Sigma and lean manufacturing with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Knowledge of piezoelectric materials and properties is a plus
  • Desire to learn or familiarity with ultrasonic transducer characterization
  • Formal project management training preferred

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, modifies and evaluates mechanical parts and components for ultrasonic probes and scanners.
  • Create and maintain documentation to accepted standards for new and mature products as needed.
  • Collaborate with other functions to update and release documentation using the PLM system to create and process PCN, ECN and First Article Approvals.
  • Evaluate new materials, components, processes (bonding, electrical connection, assembly) methods for use in new designs.
  • Calculate tolerance stack ups and account for machining and other manufacturing process considerations where applicable.
  • Support FMEA and PFMEA for new designs to ensure Design for Quality (DFQ) and Design for Excellence (DFX) objectives are achieved.
  • Support transfer of products to production and sustaining activities for the product’s lifecycle
