About The Position

Who we’re looking for: The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Quality & Compliance Analyst with the Transfusion Services Team at the University of Washington Medical Center – Montlake. Work schedule: 100% FTE Monday – Friday Day shift Occasional telework (schedule to be discussed with the hiring manager)

Requirements

  • Accredited bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science OR equivalent education.
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent, or certification with a specialty organization appropriate to the laboratory division.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in a hospital blood bank or quality/regulatory role

Nice To Haves

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification (any level) or CQA or CQM certification by the American Society for Quality.
  • Previous experience with electronic quality management and document control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Management & Regulatory Compliance Serve as the front-line resource for staff questions and issues relating to quality and compliance across all TSL operations.
  • Collect, review, and evaluate non-conformance reports, event investigations, deviations, and safety concerns, ensuring timely resolution and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive records in the electronic quality management system and track trends for ongoing improvement.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure ongoing compliance with CAP, FDA, AABB, Joint Commission, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Perform and participate in routine quality audits.
  • Process Improvement & Reporting Identify, recommend, and help implement process changes for greater efficiency and regulatory compliance, documenting all corrective and preventive actions.
  • Analyze and report on quality metrics, presenting data to committees and leadership to inform decision-making.
  • Participate in or lead quality improvement teams and initiatives.
  • Validation & Compliance Support Assist in the development and execution of validation plans for new processes, procedures, and equipment.
  • Provide technical support during validation activity and ensure documentation meets all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Product Suitability & Patient Safety Collaborate with staff and medical directors to assess the suitability, safety, purity, potency, and efficacy of blood components during investigations of deviations or adverse events.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams, including Nursing and Clinical departments, to address cross-department quality or safety issues.
  • Staff Training, Mentorship & Communication Deliver quality, regulatory, and safety training to TSL staff, maintaining documentation of training and staff competencies.
  • Mentor team members to support consistent and accurate quality practices.
  • Communicate updates on procedures, protocols, or regulatory requirements, ensuring clear and timely dissemination to all applicable staff.
  • Technical and Operational Support Provide technical oversight for equipment calibration, maintenance, and quality control.
  • Utilize laboratory information systems, databases, and office software to support quality operations.
  • Work collaboratively with IT and instrument vendors to resolve interface and performance issues.
  • Provide coverage support in routine laboratory operations such as testing, allocation and inventory management as required.
