Conduct and evaluate technical and economic assessments of the EHV and HV transmission system for the reliable operation and expansion of the Southwest Transmission interconnected system. Conduct power flow, transient stability, post-transient power flow and short-circuit duty analyses of the transmission grid. Identify and evaluate potential transmission system additions and develop Long Range Plans. Review technical analyses and proposals of entities seeking to interconnect to the Southwest Transmission system and develop System Impact and Facility Studies as needed.

Requirements

BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering/Technical field or a combination of education, training and industry experience.
Ability to learn or equivalent industry experience to include least 4 years in the Electric Power Industry with emphasis in Power systems, such as transmission planning, forecasting of power delivery systems, substation/transmission design, etc.
Ability to learn or equivalent industry experience to include: understanding of transmission systems, particularly with regards to electric power system theory, apparatus performance, and application of equipment; an understanding and ability to work with advanced power systems analysis software, such as the General Electric Positive Sequence Load Flow (PSLF) program, and be proficient in Microsoft Office programs; an understanding of WECC/NERC policies, standards, criteria and procedures and policies related to electric power systems; an understanding of the policies, criteria and procedures related to electric power systems of the WECC (or other Reliability Councils), NERC, FERC and other regulatory bodies.
Ability to travel, including overnight travel.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form in a formal or informal presentation setting to an audience or an individual.

Responsibilities

Gather transmission data, such as transmission line characteristics, transformer nameplate data for developing system impedance data for input into the GE PSLF program.
Prepare data for submittal to WECC for the power flow/stability data sets and for Loads & Resources reporting.
Develop internal WECC databases for use in power flow, stability and short-circuit study work.
Conduct power flow analyses of the interconnected transmission grid.
Assist in providing Member Systems with required technical studies.
Provide technical support to System Dispatch, Engineering, Operations & Maintenance and other departments as needed.
Prepare project justifications for projects proposed for inclusion into the Long-Range Plan and assist Engineering in the preparation of the Construction Work Plan.
