About The Position

TEKsystems is currently seeking a Senior Transport Engineer with strong Nokia experience for a 2-year contract opening that will be 100% Remote. Nokia Equipment and NSP experience required. (Nokia SAR and Nokia IXR) Description Core Duties for Delivery Transport Engineer 1- Design, Plan & Engineer - Design packet-optical transport solutions, including fiber route validation, power budgets, and OSNR margins. - Perform fiber characterization (OTDR, chromatic dispersion [CD], polarization mode dispersion [PMD], splice loss, return loss) to validate optical paths. - Engineer long-haul and metro DWDM/ROADM links using Ciena 6500 & photonic line systems. 2- Implementation, Turn Up & Migration - Deploy, test, and accept fiber spans using advanced tools (OTDR, OSA, PMD/CD analyzers) before optical commissioning. - Implement SONET/TDM to OTN/IP migrations with detailed fiber health checks. - Characterize and troubleshoot fiber impairments (CD, PMD, reflections, non-linear effects) impacting DWDM/OTN performance. - Deploy 400G/800G coherent optics, ensuring fiber links meet required OSNR/CD/PMD threshold 3- Documentation and workflow - Service Order Management (MetaSolv or equivalent): - Create and update service orders, circuit designs, and inventory records. - Document A-Z path details, fiber assignments, and cross-connects for new services. - Ensure TDM, SONET, OTN, and DWDM circuit provisioning steps are accurately recorded in MetaSolv (or similar inventory systems like Mosaic, Cramer, Granite). - Fiber Documentation & Characterization Records Store OTDR baseline traces, fiber route maps, and optical power measurements in the system for historical tracking. Maintain fiber characterization test reports (CD, PMD, ORL) for each route. Validate fiber health data against future troubleshooting requirements. - Document Method of Procedure (MOP) and Rollback Plans for all implementations. - Record as-built diagrams, rack elevations, patch panel details in inventory systems. - Track maintenance window activities and post-change verification reports. 4- Documentation Tools - Visio / AutoCAD – for producing rack elevations, fiber diagrams, and topology maps - MetaSolv Solution (MSS) – for circuit inventory, A-Z circuit design, and provisioning - Confluence / SharePoint – for team documentation and knowledge base - Network Performance Tools: MCP (Ciena) with exported performance & provisioning logs. - Salesforce – for project workflows, tasks, and customer updates 5- Preferred Certifications - Nokia Optical Network Certification (ONC/OSC) - Ciena MCP and Optical certifications (OC-A/OC-P/OC-C) - MEF-CECP, NRS II, CCNP - FOA CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) – with CFOS/T (Testing & Troubleshooting) - EXFO or VIAVI Fiber Characterization Training Skills Nokia, MPLS, Bgp, Network engineering Top Skills Details Nokia, MPLS ,Bgp, Network engineering Additional Skills & Qualifications This is an advanced level position and requires a high level of specific discipline expertise and the ability to make technical decisions independently on significant engineering problems and provide technical direction and resolutions to ensure service level commitments are maintained. Required to have knowledge of other Engineering disciplines and will be expected to perform highly complex and diverse duties under challenging deadlines and operating constraints. Must be capable of performing the role of project engineer for major complex projects and provide technical leadership, oversight and mentoring to junior engineers. Considered the subject matter expert and possess an advanced knowledge of how technologies integrate across multiple computing platforms. Expected to design, plan, analyze, and implement complex solutions that integrate projects and operational services across several of the company’s business departments. Will review documentation from junior engineers and provide final design specifications to ensure seamless integration into the operational environment. Expert understanding of standard engineering concepts such as high availability, redundancy, reliability and testing, security, and standards. Excellent budget and time management skills to manage multiple complex projects on time and on budget. Ability to lead other engineers on large complex projects. Ability to serve as a technical expert in a particular discipline or disciplines within the company. Excellent time management skills to manage multiple complex projects smoothly and professionally on time and on budget.
