About The Position

The Transportation Associate is accountable for transporting passengers to and from scheduled medical appointments, assist passengers in and out of the vehicle, and to provide necessary escort services at their pick-up point and at the appointment site. The Transportation Associate is responsible for ensuring the safety of passengers at all times during trips and for ensuring that the assigned vehicle is in safe operating condition.

  • Drivers License - Licensing Board
  • A valid driver's license and that the employee is insurable by Avera Health automobile liability insurance carrier.

Responsibilities

  • Provides safe, courteous and efficient transportation to passengers to include transporting, assisting and escorting passengers, as needed, to and from their homes and appointment sites.
  • May operate wheelchair lift device when necessary to board and deboard passengers; ensures that wheelchair brakes are locked while lift is in motion, positioning wheelchairs in vehicle, and securing them to vehicle.
  • Maintains a clean and safe vehicle with regular vehicle maintenance. Examples include wash and vacuum inside of vehicle when visibly soiled, oil changes, and tire pressure/wear. Report safety concerns related to transport vehicle immediately to leader.
  • Maintains current required licenses, certificates and safe driving record.
  • Documents any incidents that may happen while transporting passengers including passengers falling or injured in some manner, accidents, complaints regarding service, or other concerns of passengers
  • Maintains records of trips and concerns regarding behaviors of passenger.
  • Operates cell phone or similar device to communicate as required and necessary but not while actively operating a vehicle.
  • Completes daily, weekly, monthly records as needed for state and regulatory reports.
  • Participates in mandatory in services and/or computer based training as stipulated by the department and/or hospital.
