About The Position

The Community Group (TCG) is a private, nonprofit organization creating opportunities through education since 1970. TCG manages a range of programs, including a network of early childhood and out-of-school time programs, a network of charter and district public schools, consulting and training programs, and a child care resource and referral program, Child Care Circuit. Role Summary: The Transportation Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the Transportation Department in the daily operations of the transportation services across our agency. This role assists with route coordination, staff support, safety compliance and communication with families and programs. This position is FLSA non-exempt and reports to the Transportation Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma is required
  • Exhibit good technology skills; experience in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Google Chrome, etc.
  • Detailed knowledge of Lawrence streets and traffic patterns
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible schedule including late shifts
  • Exceptional problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of all federal and state rules regulations that apply to child care and school bus transportation
  • Must complete CORI, SORI, and fingerprint scan in accordance with regulations set forth by Department of Early Education and Care prior to employment.
  • Evidence of a physical examination completed within one year prior to employment.
  • Evidence of immunizations against Measles, Mumps, and Rubella completed prior to employment.
  • Obtain or Maintain current infant/child CPR and First Aid Certification within two months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual: English/Spanish is preferred
  • Experience working in child care setting or school-based transportation system is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support daily transportation operations, including arranging substitute bus monitors and emergency coverage
  • Support the Transportation Manager in development and modification of bus routes using software and local knowledge of transportation area
  • Coordinate with NRT, submit field trip requests, monitor the transportation email inbox and ensure timely follow up
  • Monitor the Transportation waitlist
  • Work with school & program based operations staff to ensure transportation runs smoothly
  • Conduct daily reviews of bus attendance records to verify completeness and compliance
  • Respond to all parent questions/concerns in a timely manner and in accordance with protocols that are developed for each program
  • Conduct regular audit of the buses, ride buses monthly to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations as well as individual program protocols regarding transportation
  • Promote strong performance by modeling effective practices on the bus, supporting new hires through coaching, and providing ongoing guidance or retraining as needed to ensure compliance with state regulations and agency standards
  • Prepare training materials and lead professional development sessions for bus monitors
  • Provide backup coverage for bus monitors as needed
  • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor
