A Transportation Engineer I is responsible for assisting the Project Manager in the design development of transportation projects on local roadways and state highways. This may include the preparation of design concepts and reports through the delivery of plans, specifications, estimates (PS&E) construction documents and support in construction. In addition to technical skills, this position will include coordination with team members, interaction with clients, agency staff, and other consultants under the direction of the Project Manager. This position includes understanding and compliance with project scopes, budgets, and schedules. The candidate is expected to provide training for junior staff in technical skills. To well execute these duties a candidate must show a variety of past experiences in the preparation of preliminary design reports, design plans, specifications, quantities, and estimates using Caltrans and local agency standards. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the use of a variety of different transportation design standards including but not limited to the Caltrans Highway Design Manual (HDM), Project Development Procedures Manual (PDPM), CT Standard Plans, CA Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CAMUTCD), the AASHTO Greenbook, and other similar guidance standards. Proficiency in preparing plan sets using AutoCAD Civil 3D is expected. Our team is keen on professionalism merged with fun and a responsible work ethic. The Transportation Engineer I is expected to work in the office a minimum of three days per week to facilitate team work, training, and mentorship.
