About The Position

This classification is responsible for assisting in the construction, repair, maintenance of City roadways. This position is subject to be included in the off-hours, on-call response service.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required
One (1) year of experience in grounds keeping, maintenance, custodial or related field
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License. Other certifications may be required upon employment.

Responsibilities

Performs repairs and maintenance operations on city rights-of-way or property; typical work will consist of: Litter and illegal dumping removal
Assist with the installation of concrete
Digs trenches, cleans catch basins, manholes
Clears debris from roadways
Removes dead animals from roadway and rights-of-way
Operates equipment such as but not limited to chainsaws, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, chipper, mowers, tractors, etc.
Performs maintenance and construction tasks for asphalt paving and repair operations: Typical work will consist of shoveling asphalt or gravel to patch potholes
Flags traffic at construction and maintenance projects
Performs roadside tree and vegetation control and emergency hazard response
Performs and assist with inclement weather removal within the roadway and rights-of-way
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards
Operates a city vehicle and or equipment; conducts pre- and post-trip inspections including checking all fluids, gauges, lighting, mirrors, tires, body damage, seats and seatbelts, and cleanliness of assigned vehicle.
Conducts general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition.
Maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies: initiates orders materials and equipment needed for each job; conducts routine safety inspections on equipment; advises supervisor of needed repairs.
Ensures compliance with all applicable code, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment.
Performs other related duties as required.
