In the role of Transportation Planner/Data Scientist, we'll count on you to: Support FDOT Freight and Rail Office (FRO) with Rail Highway Crossings Inventory and FDOT Transportation Data Analytics (TDA) Office with the Roadway Characteristics Inventory Support TDA Linear Referencing System Work with a team of developers, geospatial analysts, engineers, scientists, business analysts, and planners to gather, organize, quality control, manage, and maintain data products. Lead development projects, plan and design solutions, develop database schemas and analysis methods needed to support project goals (in desktop, web, and mobile environments). Support other TDA and FRO functions as needed

Requirements

  • A degree in a closely related field or combination of education and relevant experience
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented professional, ability to multitask a must
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Outlook
  • Proficiency with data engineering tools and languages such as SQL, Power Query, and Pandas
  • Proficiency with business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, Seaborn, and Matplotlib
  • Proficiency with data science languages such as Python and R
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Excellent writing and people skills
  • Strong math and organizational skills
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and various managers in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar, punctuation, proofreading, spelling and telephone skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Nice To Haves

  • An associate or bachelors degree
  • One year of engineering, traffic studies, or traffic safety experience
  • Website development skills
  • Programming skills
  • GIS, statistical and other analytical skills
  • Local candidates preferred
