This role requires demonstrated expertise in travel demand forecasting, level-of-service analysis, parking demand evaluation, and multimodal impact assessment (vehicular, pedestrian, and transit). Strong familiarity with NYC DOT methodologies for demand planning, assignment, and LOS analysis under NYC City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR) is required. Experience in traffic and civil engineering is strongly encouraged. GZA emphasizes a One Company environment, and as a member of our team, you may be asked to assist on projects and tasks outside of your primary responsibilities

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or minimum 5 years of relevant transportation experience.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing transportation analyses for CEQR review.
  • Strong working knowledge of NYC DOT methodologies (preferred).
  • Proficiency in AutoTURN, Synchro, HCS, and similar traffic analysis tools.
  • Experience with GIS, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to clearly illustrate transportation and urban planning concepts graphically.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills; ability to manage multiple deadlines independently.

Responsibilities

  • Lead transportation analyses for discretionary land use actions (rezonings, special permits, variances), independently determining appropriate methodologies and defensible impact conclusions under CEQR.
  • Direct trip generation, trip assignment, modal split, parking demand, and queuing analyses; oversee QA/QC of technical work prepared by junior staff.
  • Plan and manage traffic, pedestrian, transit, parking, and queuing data collection programs, ensuring methodological consistency and defensibility.
  • Evaluate development proposals and zoning actions to identify transportation impacts, safety concerns, multimodal conflicts, and mitigation opportunities.
  • Assess roadway, intersection, sidewalk, transit, and curbside operations, including traffic control devices and capacity constraints.
  • Lead transportation modeling using AutoTURN, Synchro, HCS, and related tools; provide technical oversight of assumptions and model outputs.
  • Prepare and review CEQR-compliant transportation sections for EAS and EIS documents, including impact determinations and mitigation strategies.
  • Develop maps, graphics, visualizations, and technical documentation for agency submissions, client deliverables, and public presentations.
  • Represent the firm at client meetings, agency consultations, hearings, and public forums.
  • Support proposal development, including scope definition, methodology selection, and level-of-effort estimates.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level staff on CEQR methodology, technical analysis, and documentation standards.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to support broader environmental, planning, zoning, and infrastructure initiatives.
