Requirements

  • Strong communication, writing and oral skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, planning, or related studies (including but not limited to geography, public administration, environmental policy, engineering and/or natural resources); from an accredited four-year college, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Demonstrated 15+ years in progressively responsible experience;
  • NEPA/SEPA documentation and coordination experience including knowledge of the planning process and familiarity with federal and state environmental laws and regulations;
  • Travel to other offices or project locations may be required.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. We are unable to sponsor or take over the sponsorship of employment visas.

Responsibilities

  • The Transportation Planning Manager will perform business development, promote WGI marketing initiatives, and to be responsible as project manager in identifying, leading, and directing a wide variety of planning responsibilities related to transportation planning, public outreach, community impact analysis, and NEPA/SEPA studies.
  • As project manager, lead transportation planning projects for local and state transportation agencies and other new market agencies/clients.
  • Participate in client marketing activities, identification and pursuit of new projects;
  • Conduct technical planning aspects of roadway, railroad, marine, and multimodal alternatives analysis related to safety, community impact analysis, land use, and public involvement;
  • Knowledge of NCDOT programs, policies, merger process, Section 4(f), and NEPA;
  • Conduct quality control reviews and quality assurance for project deliverables;
  • Interact with the public on the client’s behalf and attend periodic project public meetings in various locations;
  • Conduct project management tasks related to preparation of contract scope of services, staff hour estimates, sub-consultant coordination and schedule control;
  • Support other WGI offices with transportation planning analysis and/or quality control reviews; and business development.
