About The Position

UPMC Mercy is hiring a Full Time Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator to support Trauma and Burn Services! This position will work Monday-Friday from 7am-4pm with no weekends/holidays (possibly 4 10-hour shifts depending on need). Purpose: The Trauma PI Coordinator, a professional registered nurse, has the authority, responsibility and accountability for delivery of quality nursing care using the nursing process. In collaboration with the health care team, the PI Trauma Coordinator applies expert clinical knowledge and skills to achieve quality patient outcomes. The role works with trauma program leadership to coordinate all aspects of the department?s Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) program in accordance with the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) standards. Reports to the Trauma Program Manager.

Requirements

  • BSN required
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in trauma, emergency or critical care
  • Ability to communicate effectively with professionals in diverse disciplines.
  • Knowledge of medical and nursing equipment utilized in trauma care management.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and data-base management.
  • Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Act 34
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews the continuum of care to determine compliance with the Trauma Performance Improvement Program plan.
  • Maintain the Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) database to ensure adequate documentation and completion as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures that all components of the trauma program meet the quality assurance standards established by the hospital.
  • Aggregates information / data related to trauma care systems so that patterns are ascertainable to program and hospital leadership.
  • Maintains all performance improvement program documentation.
  • Quality & Innovation: Maintains an active role in Trauma Performance Improvement through EMR review, to capture patient hospital events, clinical practice guideline compliance, user defined indicators, and audit filters in Trauma HQ.
  • Support the trauma program through analysis of predetermined risk adjusted national benchmarks developed by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), that includes review of the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) reports.
  • Coordinates the Trauma Performance Improvement Program for the hospital.
  • Assists with department-based Performance Improvement projects.
  • Regulatory Responsibilities: Performs in accordance with all Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) Standards of Accreditation 1.0 FTE dedicated to the Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) function
  • Participation in the PTSF PI Part 1: Theory & Overview within one year of appointment.
  • Participation in the STN-TOPIC Course (or equivalent PI course) within one year of appointment.Active participation in the PTSF Site Survey / Accreditation Preparation education within the year prior to their first survey.
  • Any RN fulfilling any component of the PI Role/FTE must maintain 75%25 attendance at the Trauma PIPS meeting.Attendance and/or participation in local, regional, state, and national trauma-related activities.
  • Attends national, state and local trauma meetings in accordance with PTSF standards.
