About The Position

The Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator works in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director (TMD) and Trauma Program Manager (TPM) to coordinate all aspects of the Trauma Department's Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) program. The Trauma PI Coordinator conducts performance reviews of the continuum of care from the prehospital setting to hospital discharge and determines compliance with patient care practice management guidelines, policies, procedures, and established standards of care. The Trauma PI Coordinator possesses in-depth knowledge of chart abstraction and the trauma registry, including reporting, data analysis, trend identification, and benchmarking of outcomes based upon the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma (COT), as well as state and regional standards and recommendations for quality and maintenance for trauma center verification/re-verification and local/state designation.

Requirements

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date.
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date.
  • (RN) Registered Nurse.
  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree Preferred.
  • 3+ years experience in Nursing.
  • 3+ years experience in Trauma Nursing.
  • Experience in Quality/Performance Improvement.
  • Experience in Project Management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Plan.
  • Maintain the Trauma PI database to ensure adequate documentation as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Complete concurrent review of cases to identify quality, timelines, and systems of care to meet state standards.
  • Participate in hospital education programs for nurses and resident physicians caring for trauma patients.
  • Serve as a liaison to the clinical areas responsible for trauma patients.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary monthly Trauma Systems & Operations Committee and Peer Review meetings.
