About The Position

Ready to trade the ordinary for the outdoors? Join our hardworking Public Works team and help keep our Township safe, beautiful, and resilient—rain, shine, snow, or surprise windstorm. As a Tree Climber/Operator, you’ll be the person residents actually thank when the roads are clear, the trees are trimmed, and the community looks its best. This is a hands-on, all-weather role for someone who isn’t afraid of heights, hard work, or a little sawdust. You’ll climb, cut, haul, operate heavy equipment, and make a visible impact every single day. If you’re the type who thrives outside, loves a challenge, and takes pride in a job well done, we want to hear from you.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED, plus 2+ years of tree work (climbing, cutting, trimming). Equivalent experience combos welcome.
  • A valid CDL Class B—and the commitment to keep it.
  • Solid knowledge of arbor care: rigging, knots, ropes, and safe climbing practices.
  • Familiarity with public works equipment, mechanics, and safe tree removal procedures.
  • The strength and stamina to perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions.
  • The ability to follow oral and written instructions and learn new skills as needed.
  • A team-first attitude with the initiative to work independently when required.
  • Strong organization, integrity, and resourcefulness.
  • The professionalism to work courteously—even when someone’s having a rough day.

  • Haul logs, brush, and debris; perform manual labor; maintain equipment.
  • Assist with installing signs and pavement markings.

  • Respond to emergency situations, weather events, and urgent public works needs.
  • Nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required.
  • Use a wide range of hand and power tools, including chainsaws, woodchippers, string trimmers, and portable electric tools.
  • Attend training sessions and classes to stay sharp and up to date.
  • Work in field conditions with exposure to weather, dust, fumes, and hazardous road environments.
  • PPE is required and provided.
  • Perform other public works duties as assigned.
