About The Position

The Local CDL A Driver is responsible for safely transporting product between the company warehouse and in-house manufacturing locations within the metro Detroit area, while maintaining high safety and customer service standards. Hours: 7:00AM-3:30PM Schedule: Monday-Friday, some Saturdays Responsibilities Safely operate a Class A commercial vehicle for local, same-day routes within metro Detroit. Move product between company warehouse and in-house manufacturing facilities according to daily schedules and dispatch instructions. Load and secure sheet steel products, ensuring proper tie-down and weight distribution in compliance with DOT requirements. Load and unload cargo or assist in the loading/unloading process using appropriate material handling equipment when required. Perform routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor and trailer to ensure equipment is safe and roadworthy; promptly report defects or maintenance needs. Adhere to all DOT regulations, traffic laws, and company safety policies at all times. Accurately complete required paperwork and/or electronic logs for deliveries, inspections, and hours of service as required by company policy. Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse, and manufacturing personnel regarding schedules, delays, or issues with loads. Maintain a clean, professional vehicle and represent the company in a courteous, customer-focused manner at all delivery and pickup locations. Local, home-daily routes within the metro Detroit area; typical Monday–Friday schedule with overtime as needed. Work performed in all weather conditions in and around warehouse, yard, and manufacturing environments

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL with a clean motor vehicle record. (Air Brakes rating)
  • Current, valid DOT medical card.
  • Experience with proper load securement, including use of chains, binders, straps, and edge protection.
  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform frequent climbing in and out of trucks and on/off trailers, bending, kneeling, and standing throughout the shift.
  • Strong safety mindset and working knowledge of DOT regulations and local traffic laws.
  • Reliable, punctual, and willing to work overtime as needed to support production and customer schedules.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience transporting sheet steel or similar flatbed/tie-down freight strongly preferred.
