Smith is headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with approximately 12,000 employees at operations in the United States, Canada, China, India, Mexico, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.Primary FunctionThe Box Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of raw materials and finished goods between our warehouse and manufacturing plant locations. This role requires adherence to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations while ensuring timely deliveries and pickups.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Clean driving record (no major violations with the last 3 years)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing and frequent bending and reaching.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and with assistance

Responsibilities

  • Operate a box truck (typically 16-26 ft.) in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to all local, state and federal traffic laws and regulations.
  • Transport raw materials from the warehouse to the plant, and finished goods from the plant to the warehouse, according to production schedules and shipping manifests.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, documenting any issues or maintenance needs.
  • Load and unload materials and products safely by utilizing electric pallet jacks or by hand, ensuring proper securing of loads to prevent damage during transit.
  • Verify the accuracy of cargo against shipping documents before leaving each location.
  • Maintain accurate delivery logs, including mileage, fuel consumption and delivery times.
  • Communicate effectively with warehouse and plant personnel regarding delivery status, delays or discrepancies.
  • Assist with general warehouse or plant duties as needed, when not actively driving.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
