About The Position

This position is responsible for:Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area. Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions.
  • Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
  • Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
  • Distance of travel is usually within the same building.
  • No formal education required, AND Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid State Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store.
  • Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables and work areas.
  • Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items; assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.
  • Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
  • Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.
  • Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs; prepares and delivers bank deposits; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures.
  • Prepares, processes and maintains various sales records, tax forms, and social service vouchers; prepares routine sales reports as directed.
  • Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; ensures that forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked.
  • Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to the category and condition.
  • Selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing; discards items in accordance with established procedures.
  • Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.
  • Hangs clothes on hangers and places same on clothes racks.
