About The Position

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of engineers and technicians, you will be responsible for design, analysis, and test input on both compressors and expanders. You’ll also work with manufacturing team members to address assembly, fabrication, and part non-conformance issues. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in the fields of fluid dynamics and thermal-fluids analysis
  • Experience with one or more CFD modeling tools is required (e.g., Ansys CFX, Ansys Fluent, CFD++, Numeca, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and tackle problems using a variety of tools and methods for aerodynamic analyses
  • Solid understanding of first principles of rotating machinery component mechanical design, including turbines, impellers, housings, seals and bearings.
  • Working knowledge of turbomachinery assemblies.
  • Understanding of turbomachinery thermodynamic and aerodynamic design concepts.
  • Possess high attention to detail and strong organizational/coordination skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • MS or PhD degree in engineering.
  • Experience with turbomachinery production, qualification testing and flight operations.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management principles and practices.
  • Experience with cryogenic fluids.
  • Experience with turbomachinery blade and vane design.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
  • Knowledge of other tools including MATLAB and Python.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CFD analyses as part of compressor and expander turbomachinery design cycles from conceptual through flight operations.
  • Perform CFD analysis to validate testing boundary conditions and support systems engineering
  • Document analysis inputs, models, and results in reports as well as presentation and archiving results
  • Collaborate with mechanical design team members to create and improve engineering drawings, specifications, processes, and design manuals to address product and process requests.
  • Provide engineering dispositions for non-conforming hardware identified during the manufacturing and assembly process.
  • Responsible for documentation of analysis inputs, models, and results in reports as well as presentation and archiving results
