UI Design Intern

PlantibleEldorado, TX
9h$20 - $20Onsite

About The Position

We are seeking a User Interface (UI) Design Intern who combines analytical rigor with hands-on curiosity - someone who enjoys translating complex operational data into intuitive, user-friendly interfaces. Based on site at our Ranchito facility, this role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact startup environment—working alongside operators and engineers to improve usability, clarity and accessibility across our plant data systems. This is a paid, part-time summer internship (hourly, non-exempt) lasting approximately 10–12 weeks, from late May/early June through August. Interns are expected to work approximately 20–25 hours per week, with some flexibility based on project needs and academic schedules. Compensation is $20/hour.

Requirements

  • The Portfolio: A showcase of clean, functional UI work. We value logic and usability over pure "dribble-style" aesthetics.
  • The Tools: Proficiency in Figma (required), including auto-layout and components.
  • Analytical Mindset: You can take a messy spreadsheet of data and turn it into a clear, actionable chart.
  • Understanding Use Cases: You care about the person using the software at 4:00 AM in a cold production room.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with VueJS (NuxtJS) or NextJS for component structures is a plus for collaboration with engineering
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS or experience with industrial/B2B software.

Responsibilities

  • Audit & Discovery: Shadow plant operators to understand how they interact with the current dashboards and workflows in a high-pressure, production environment.
  • UI Redesign: Design high-fidelity mockups for selected dashboards, real-time sensor monitors, or inventory workflows as part of a defined improvement project.
  • Design System Management: Contribute to the development or refinement of a scalable component library (buttons, cards, data visualizations) in collaboration with our engineering team.
  • Prototyping: Create interactive prototypes to test workflows like "Batch Approval" or "Emergency Shutdown" incorporating feedback from operators and engineers to ensure they are foolproof.
  • Accessibility & Environment: Design specifically for the factory floor—considering high-contrast needs, "gloved-hand" touch targets, and low-light conditions.
