About the position

Brigham Young University (BYU) is seeking a part-time UI/UX Designer to join its User Experience Team within the Office of Information Technology (OIT). This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about user experience and want to make a difference in the lives of students, faculty, and staff. The position offers flexibility in scheduling, allowing employees to set their own hours between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The ideal candidate will work with cutting-edge technology and have opportunities for training and growth within a collaborative and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop user-centered design solutions for various projects.
  • Conduct user testing and usability analysis to inform design decisions.
  • Collaborate with team members to enhance user experience across platforms.
  • Create storyboards, website mapping, and journey mapping.
  • Utilize visual design programs and wireframing/prototyping tools.
  • Adapt quickly to new technologies and design trends.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Working knowledge of UI/UX design principles and techniques.
  • Experience with user testing and usability analysis.
  • Familiarity with web-based information hierarchy and design.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage several projects efficiently.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Experience creating storyboards, website mapping, journey mapping, etc.
  • Understanding of graphic design and web technologies.
  • Familiarity with visual design programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lucidchart.
  • Experience with wireframing/prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS.
  • A portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating user-centered design solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two or more years of direct experience in UI/UX design and development.
  • Experience with various design tools and technologies.
