We are seeking an Underwriter I to evaluate new and renewal business, review policy documents, and ensure underwriting quality in alignment with carrier guidelines and program standards. In this role, you will analyze risk, support data integrity, assist with policy maintenance, and provide timely, accurate service to internal and external partners. Training includes two weeks of hands‑on, followed by an additional six weeks of guided development, or longer based on individual progress or newly assigned accounts. After training is complete, this role moves to a hybrid model with two in‑office days per week. As part of a collaborative team of six, you will contribute to underwriting accuracy, support operational goals, and help maintain strong client relationships.

Requirements

  • Associate degree + two years of business experience, or a Bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word (non‑negotiable)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Mathematical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work in a fast‑paced environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Professional demeanor with initiative, accuracy, and reliability

Nice To Haves

  • Prior insurance policy or underwriting experience
  • Familiarity with P&C insurance terminology or workflows
  • Experience using policy management systems
  • Data entry and reporting experience

Responsibilities

  • Risk Assessment : Evaluate individual risks within your designated program to assess underwriting acceptability and quality.
  • Policy Review : Review property and casualty insurance policies in CAST for compliance, accuracy, and adherence to program standards.
  • Data Management : Enter and maintain accurate data in our policy management system, Visions, including policyholder records, FROI entries, and class code updates.
  • Reporting : Compile and run reports for policy renewals, data validation, and performance metrics.
  • Client Support : Respond to internal and external client inquiries with timely, accurate, and courteous service.
  • Administrative Duties : Handle routine policy maintenance, including updates for names, addresses, job codes, and locations for clients.
  • Team Collaboration : Demonstrate a commitment to team goals and contribute to achieving our organizational objectives.
