Today, MiniCo is a member of the Jencap Program Administrators division, offering multiple specialty property and casualty insurance products for a variety of unique industries and exposures. The Underwriter will review, evaluate, markets and prices new and renewal applications, endorsements, and related documents by performing the following essential job functions within Company/Agency granted authority. Develop new broker relationships and enhance existing ones to meet production goals. The Underwriter (Non - Profit and Social Services) will work a hybrid schedule from our Bothell WA office.

Requirements

  • College degree or combined equivalent of work related experience and/or acquisition of at least one industry course related designation in the Commercial Property/Casualty insurance field preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of commercial underwriting experience recommended.
  • Suggest continual involvement in insurance related educational seminars, etc.
  • Participate in company organized, prescribed, or designated insurance seminars and workshops on or off premises.

Responsibilities

  • Examines and evaluates documents such as application forms, inspection reports, financial reports, product brochures, company referral agreements, and other pertinent documents to determine degree of risk, underwriting and market selection.
  • Accepts, rejects, classifies, prices and binds insurance risks within granted underwriting authority. Also brokers to company underwriters beyond any authority grants. Prepares submissions for rating and handling by the support staff. Effectively markets and negotiates with brokers and insurance companies on individual accounts.
  • Effectively communicates orally, in writing, and electronically with agent or broker, company underwriters, internal support staff and management to obtain additional information, quote rates, present proposals, explain company underwriting policies and coverage offerings, as well as servicing existing accounts.
  • Assist marketing department, support staff, and other internal departments in resolving problems and questions. Assist in the development and implementation of new marketing strategies.
  • As may be required, visit brokers and/or company clients to enhance relationships and improve production opportunities. Attend trade conventions.
  • Meet company/agency production, retention, and growth goals.
  • Performs risk selection and analysis (including documentation) pricing, and sale of individual account/risks to broker clients.
  • Ability to work independently, within company/agency granted authority levels and carry out assignments to completion with minimal supervision.
  • May assist agency/company claims department in interpreting coverage and/or advising underwriting intent.
  • May assist, as may be necessary, in the training and development of both new underwriters and underwriting support staff.
  • Assist in company special projects as may be required.
  • Problem Solving: Making sound underwriting decisions on individual accounts within company/agency granted authority levels, while maintaining creativity, flexibility and good client relationships.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret underwriting documents, manuals & guidelines to make sound, productive, and profitable decisions.
  • Ideally is well versed in Property, Crime, Inland Marine, GL, PL and Auto – Commercial Lines.
  • The ideal candidate should have some experience within the Non-profit and Social services sector – Not a must.
  • Sound mathematical skills to effectively price accounts, analyze loss experience, and determine insurance valuations.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, conflict resolution, and collaborative team skills.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate terms/pricing, communicate and present information to broker/client and company personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive internal and external relationships.
  • Good and thorough knowledge of commercial insurance coverages.
  • Good time management, organizational and prioritization skills.
