About The Position

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is recruiting top talent to join our Underwriting organization. On these remote-first teams, you'll play a critical role in supporting the health and financial well-being of our 3.4 million customers. We're considering candidates for Assistant Underwriter roles (G9) through Underwriting Consultant roles (G12). Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Mathematics, Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Effective analytical, planning, interpersonal, organizational and research skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Medical Stop-Loss and/or financial underwriting
  • Actuarial and/or financial management experience
  • Experience supporting group healthcare underwriting functions within major health insurance organizations
  • Passion for predictive analytics (including leveraging generative and/or agentic AI tools)

Responsibilities

  • Collecting information, contacting sales, account managers, agents, and other parties as appropriate to clarify and correct inconsistent, incorrect or missing group health application information.
  • Researching, investigating risk for group health insurance prospects and renewals and associated underwriting documentation, involving group health insurance.
  • Evaluating, classifying risks and setting terms/rates for approval, modification or reasons for rejection.
  • Resolving customer problems involving group health insurance.
  • Providing on-going support to experienced underwriters regarding all group health insurance processes and products to both assist underwriting task completion and improve individual process and product proficiency.
  • Must pass a math test.
