The AVP Hotels will serve as the enterprise leader responsible for advancing, scaling, and refining Intrepid Direct’s national franchise hotel vertical. This role requires a strategic, consultative, and innovative mindset to grow a long-term profitable portfolio while ensuring excellent customer experience and disciplined underwriting. The AVP Hotels will collaborate cross functionally, lead hotel underwriting, and represent Intrepid Direct with key external partners to position this vertical as a best-in-class insurance solution for the hotel industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • +15 years of commercial P&C insurance experience
  • +15 years of underwriting experience
  • Experience underwriting hotels
  • Proven track record of success
  • Entrepreneurial by nature, willing to build and be a thought leader with all stakeholders
  • Embraces innovation and continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to effectively present to small or large groups.
  • Team player, positive by nature!
  • Skilled in vendor/association relationship management and business development.
  • Travel up to 20%

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic development and long-term vision for the Hotels vertical, ensuring alignment with Intrepid Direct’s growth, profitability, and customer experience goals.
  • Serve as the primary internal subject matter expert, continuously developing expertise in hotel operations, risk management, and market trends.
  • Own the financial performance of the Hotel vertical, including loss ratio, rate adequacy, portfolio profitability and growth targets, in partnership with Underwriting, Actuarial, and CSA leadership.
  • Partner with underwriting and actuary leadership to finalize underwriting guidelines, product structures, and required filings for the hotel program.
  • Underwrite hotel accounts within our policy systems, ensuring disciplined risk selection and long-term risk adjusted returns.
  • Establish best practices, training frameworks, and quality standards for the hotel vertical, responsible for training and mentoring underwriting and CSA on standards
  • Walk in the shoes of hotel owners and vendors
  • Periodically attend national conventions to learn industry trends and visit with customers to learn their needs.
  • Learn and collaborate with hotel risk management vendors
  • Provide consultative expertise to enhance the customer journey from submission intake through onboarding and renewal.
  • Offer guidance and cross-training to members of the CSA and Sales teams so they can effectively explain pricing and terms related to both prospects and renewals.
  • Leverage data and analytical insights to guide underwriting strategy, pricing decisions, and portfolio management.
  • Identify third-party data sources and technology tools that enhance risk assessment, operational efficiency, and vertical competitiveness.
  • Lead projects from concept through execution, ensuring timely delivery and measurable outcomes.
  • Drive continuous improvement in all processes, including submission intake, underwriting workflow, communications, and claims engagement.
  • Meet deadlines, manage multiple concurrent initiatives, and operate effectively in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Participate in underwriting audits, file reviews, and regular reviews, ensuring guideline adherence, documentation quality and compliance with filing requirements.
